~~One Week After Sophie Left~~

--Keefe's POV--

          Let's just say that sleep never came after Foster left. I was so worried about her. Alden and Della wouldn't let any of us leave their property because they wanted to make sure that none of us would go after Foster on our own.  The day after she left we found Grady and Edaline outside of Everglen, where the gate used to be.

          Ro and Sandor had to put trackers in all my clothes because I've already tried to run off about twenty times. Though, if we're being honest here, it's been about over one hundred times. I just can't help it though! I've always made sure that Sophie didn't have to risk herself for others and now that she's gone, I feel like I've failed.

          Dex has tried his best to get me to talk, but I can't for the fear that I'll let the sobs escape. Biana has been really supportive throughout this past week. She tells me that Sophie knows what she's doing and that she won't let them change her or control her. I know that in my head, but in my heart I know that Sophie will do what she has to do to keep us safe, even if it causes her harm.

          When I was with the Neverseen, they didn't threaten me. They just looked for ways for me to show my allegiance. But for Sophie, they are going to threaten her into doing things and if she doesn't do them, we might get hurt. I don't want that for her, I've never wanted that for her but what can I do now? She's gone and she might never come back. She could be badly hurt and I won't know where to find her. She could be dead and I wouldn't even know until the Neverseen gave us that information.

          Throughout this past week, I can't stop thinking about the fact that she was sitting next to me that night, thinking about running away. What if I had just pushed her to tell me what was in her hand? What if I hadn't let her think about her plan by herself? She would still be here if I had just insisted on knowing her plan!

          I reach into my pocket and pull out the note that the Neverseen had given Sophie.

We have your parents and we don't deny it.

But the only way to save them is to give us what we want.

Our plans have shifted so it's not who you think.

          Just reading it brings fresh tears to my eyes. She was hiding this from me! While she was dealing with this, where was I? Oh, that's right, I was in the house talking about who knows what! Ugh! How could I have been so stupid? I should have known that the Neverseen would have gone after Sophie when they couldn't have me!
