Honestly, younger me shipped it. (well, I didn't really know what shipping was/is back then)

Before I realised why the actual outcome is better. 

Harry and Hermione, I think, would just annoy each other and yeah, I get it, Ron and Hermione, Hermione and Ron, may do the same but at least they had a build up, correct? Yes, Ron wasn't the nicest, nor the greatest to her at the start but it could be related back to the ponytail situation/scenario. The child pulls their classmates hair because they like them.
