Chapter 15: Hunter's Choice
Two days had passed since Diamond had announced (although Emerald was the one who had actually confirmed it) that she was now Hunter's mother. She had decided abruptly that Queen Cora was never a good mother to start with, and Hunter just needed someone who could understand him, and comfort him. Two days had also passed since Hunter had pondered what to do about Ruby and Emerald. He knew he needed to make a choice, but he didn't know when, or how to choose... Now. That was what the snappy part of his mind had said. It had said it quickly, with no patience, with no tolerance. It hadn't waited one second. Hunter sighed. He needed to ask himself lots of questions, and answer them. To himself. He needed to choose the right female. The one he really loved.
Who supported him for the longest? Ruby.
Who brightened his day? Both of them, but—Emerald.
Who had a personality he loved? Both...
Who taught him all he knew? Ruby.
Who never got upset, which he loved, no matter what? Emerald.
Who would never give up on him? They both wouldn't...
Who would be a caring mother for pups? Ruby...
Who would be a fun mother for pups? Emerald...
Who would stick by him and not get mad at him for small things? They both wouldn't!
Hunter groaned. This hadn't achieved anything, except both Ruby and Emerald were equals. He needed to choose, fast. This has been going on long enough already, Hunter thought, frustrated. Come on, brain, work with me!
Digging deep inside his memories, he remembered the time he had watched someone do something magical, that he knew had to be connected to kindness. Then he remembered who she was...
She held it out on her paws. She was alone in the forest, and an eerie yet soft silence surrounded her. All she could hear was the faint buzz, like a bee resting on a flower, coming from the thing she gazed at, she held, in front of her. Her paws and body were suddenly filled with warmth, as a silvery light shot out from the object. A shiver ran down her spine. "It's magic..." she whispered... "What else could it be?" Her eyes glazed over with the warmth shining from the object, and a smile broke out on her face.
Hunter breathed. He knew he was going to choose. It would be her, whose kindness was rewarded by magic. She didn't know he knew. But he did, he knew. He remembered. He remembered. He didn't know who it was back then, but he knew now. He knew who she was, and he knew he would choose her. It would be her. It was always her, from the start. He would choose Ruby.

As you can see, Hunter has chosen Ruby! I'm sure all those Huby fans are super excited. Sorry to the Hiamond and Hemerald fans; at least Emerald is a really good friend of Hunter's, and Diamond is now basically his mother! Bye!
