(Lily's POV)
"One thousand percent sure? This is a huge deal, Lily, you need to make sure it's what's right for you," Mum sighed, trying her best to smile through the fear.
"I've never been more sure of anything, mum. It's what I want, its what I need," I trailed off quietly, hoping not to upset her. She turned her delicate brown eyed gaze at Russell, who simply nodded with a small smile.
"We will still see you, won't we?" Daisy sniffed, apparently upset by the situation. I felt guilty, but it's what was best.
"Of course! I'll come back all the time, plus you'll get the biggest bedroom without me in the house!" I laughed, trying to find light of the situation. Daisy immediately grinned, her childish heart easily satisfied.
After lots more goodbyes, hugs and tears, my wonderfully dysfunctional family disappeared out of the lodge, my new home. It was small, tiny in fact, tucked away at the bottom of a large garden in the Netherlands. The owners had known me since I was young, and were most welcoming to my new venture, especially knowing my past.
Rain fell in torrents, tapping on the wooden decking that was my patio. I took a deep breath of the fresh air; the scent of melted chocolate and cinnamon bouncing through my senses. Shivering from the winter air, I gently pulled the blue wooden door shut, embracing the coziness of my home. A fabric greyish blue sofa was placed to the left of me, a tall white bookcase in the corner. The white window ledge held below the window, that looked out towards Dennis and Ina's home, and an array of soaking bushes in between. The TV was small, but I didn't care. The kitchen area was to the right of me, a small white table and chair set between the television and the stove. Through the wooden sliding doors, I entered my bedroom. A large double bed in the middle of the room, an antique looking wardrobe next to me and the en-suite to the left of the room. And that was it - my home.
"Lily? Are you alright?" A friendly accent got louder as I heard the front door open.
"Yes, I'm finally feeling ok," I smiled, approaching the kind gentleman. Dennis warmly smiled, his welcoming presence assuring me I had made the right decision.
"Listen, I don't want you to have to worry about money, but have you thought about getting a little job? Just in case me and Ina don't buy you enough food," He winked, gesturing to the kitchen that he and his wonderful wife had generously piled full of food for me. I laughed.
"You're right, I can't rely on you two forever that would be unfair! I'll start looking tomorrow," I scratched my head, wondering where to even begin. Dennis nodded, the smile not leaving his face.
"Don't forget, we're always around if you need anything," He waved, closing the door behind him. I was beyond grateful, my face brightening more than I could help.
Reaching for my purse out of my bag, I felt a twinge of something in my stomach. Hunger? Anxiety? Or both? I was so young to be starting a new life in a new country - I had no-one else my age, no friends, no job. I sighed, heading to my wardrobe and swapping my comfy leggings for a pair of jeans, and my oversized t-shirt for a long sleeved bodysuit. Throwing my deep brunette hair out of its messy bun, the curls fell naturally to my waist. With that, I threw a pair of boots on, a cosy teddy coat and headed out onto the rain battered patio.
