The tale of a
heartfelt
story that ended unexpectedly, leaving the other broken and lost."Welcome aboard, Mr Calvin." Hubert shook Charles's hand firmly, smiling at the young man who had just joined the government as a helicopter pilot. To get the best of training, Hubert decided that for Charles to get the best training, he will be put under Jasmine Nair, the best helicopter pilot at that time.
"Miss Nair, starting today, Mr Calvin will be your student as you two navigate the skies together and serve us well." Hubert introduced them to each other, knowing that they both will get along well.
"Ah... Hello.. Charles, is it? I hope I could teach you well and we could properly work together." Jasmine smiled sweetly.
Jasmine was the type of person who looked great in almost everything she wears. She was wearing a military jacket, the same one as Charles, red headphones, long pants and boots. She looked like a bad ass, but is actually really kind.
There was something about her that enticed Charles. Not only her slim body or how beautiful she looked, but her demeanor. She was the type to help others in need.
Over the next few months, Charles and Jasmine got to know each other better through training and missions together.
"Wow, Jasmine really got Charles good. She kind of acts like you." Ice commented. Ice was part of Maxis's security team on the campgrounds. Young, but highly capable.
"You really think so? Yeah, honestly, she looks suitable for that new kid Charles." K replied. Then from the corner of her eye, she spotted Maxis heading towards them and K exclaimed, "Oh shoot it's Maxis! Get back to work!"
When Charles first joined the force, he was afraid of Maxis's intimidating stare. He had strict authoritarian regimes, giving no mercy to anyone at all. Hubert figured that Maxis would eventually warm up to Charles, and told him to not scare the new ones all the time.
Charles had seen Jasmine arrest Toppats, and thinks the way she does it is highly efficient. When he gets hurt on missions, she was always the first one to bring him back to the helicopter. Charles decided to be like Jasmine, as he had taken an obvious liking to her. Brave and courageous.
"What?? Really? Alright, I'll send men on the way now." Hubert said then hung up the phone, hastily making arrangements for a team to stop a robber from breaking into the bank. It's seems like no one could stop him.
Henry Stickmin, the most notorious of them all. No ordinary cop can stop that man. A specialised team is somehow required to take him down. At that time, not a lot of information was gathered about him. He seemed to have the ability to disappear from the grid anytime he desires.
With Jasmine in the pilot seat and Charles as the copilot, the two flew the team of officers in their helicopter. They first dropped off Vincent and two of his men by a sand dune and then the breach team. Afterwards, they parked the helicopter a distance away, still being able to see the bank.
"This Henry guy must be better than I have heard of. The alarms have not went off yet. Maybe Galeforce should enlist this dude." Jasmine commented as she tore open a candy bar wrapper.
"Enlist a bandit for the government? How could he?" Charles chuckled. "He would have to be really desperate then."
A strong wind flew by throwing up some sand into the air and at the feet of the helicopter. The breeze brushed up Jasmine's long sliky hair, making Charles want to twine it in between his fingers.
Finally, the alarm blared throughout the sandy tundra, almost rendering Charles of his hearing. He took out binoculars for each of them and they peeked at the bank, seeing officers and security guards scramble through the windows, attempting to locate the one they call Henry Stickmin.
"Wow, that's a lot of drama going on in there. Thank goodness I don't have to be part of that!" Jasmine said amongst the whistling winds. Charles nodded his head in reply when Jasmine took her eyes away from the binoculars.
Five minutes later, Charles felt like it was finally time. He was nervous all this while but since now it is quiet, why not take the chance?
He turned to Jasmine and spoke in a firm, convincing voice, "Jasmine Nair, ever since the day I met you, I have fallen in love with your soul and I can't keep my eyes off you whenever you're around. Will you please be my girlfriend? I promise to make you the happiest lady in the world!"
Charles was on his knees in front of Jasmine, who looked stunned in her place. She turned around for awhile, trying to think of something to say.
"Oh... Charles. I appreciate it, but I'm not sure if I am ready for such a commitment. I really like your effort, Charles, I do."
"T-then, take all the time you want to think! I'll wait! I'll wait for the day we can hold each other. Even if you just want to stay friends, I'll wholeheartedly understand!" Charles blurted out.
This was the one thing everyone liked about Charles. They know he is patient, he doesn't rush his peers.
Over the intercoms, an officer in the bank shouted, "We have located Stickmin! We are in hot pursuit of him right now. Prepare to receive us."
Hearing the call, Jasmine reached out to the controls, activating the engine, but not letting the blades spin around yet.
And there he was, Henry Stickmin. Running towards the helicopter. Injured officers joined in the chase, determined to catch this criminal. He then caught a glimpse of the green helicopter appearing over the horizon, and he took out an RPG.
Hearing the whistling getting louder, Jasmine rushed to Charles, pushing him away. Besides suffering some burn wounds, he was at least still alive. But... how about Jasmine? There was absolutely no way for her to survive that blast.
"Crying."
"Sobbing."
"Happy?"
"Smiling??"
"Faking, are you?"
"No! That isn't right!"
"No Charles, it's okay. No need to hide, no need to be afraid." Hubert comforted Charles.
A week later, Charles stepped out from hypnosis therapy, with absolutely no memory of the incident, not even the memory of the person who fired that RPG. Hubert dared not speak her name again.
A week later, a new recruit joined the force.
"Hello! My name is Sophia. It is a pleasure to meet you." She shook Charles firmly by the hand. Charles smiled back at her.
"Oh. No wonder she seemed... familiar." Henry muttered.
At that very moment, to Charles standing in front of the woman he loved once again, it felt like his whole world had changed
overnight.——————————————————
