2 days to the wedding
Haera's POV
As confused and frustrated as I am towards Sera situation right now, I'm still relieved that the wedding is still going on. I don't know what I would have done if it were cancelled. Taeyong and Sera are meant to be, I just know it.
"Haera sweetie, have you tried on your maid-of-honour's dress yet?" Mom calls out to me from downstairs.
Here's the thing. I'm not sure if I'm still Sera's maid of honour, and even if I was, I'm not sure if I want to be. It just doesn't feel like my position to take anymore. Actually, it never did.
"Hey, I know you're mad, and you have every reason to be, but can we talk?" A voice I was trying so hard to avoid called out to me from Sera's room.
I wanted to wait a little more before having this conversation. Until after the wedding, or maybe even never. But Sera's anticipating expression makes my legs move towards her room on their own. I guess it was about time anyway.
Sera shuts the door after I come in. We stand in silence for a while, my back still facing her. Then she breaks the silence.
"He loves you, you know? He really does."
"...What?" My voice comes out hoarse, as if something were stuck in my throat.
"Lucas. Please don't blame him for any of this. It was all my fault, I accused him for using you to get to me when in reality, all he wanted...was you."
"I don't...blame you for thinking that way. I guess, at the end of the day, you just wanted to protect me," I pause, taking a deep breath before I go on, "I'm sorry too, for...everything actually. We wouldn't be in this mess if it weren't for me desperately needing a date to the wedding. I could have gone alone, I can handle a few nosy relatives."
"But you would be happier with him, wouldn't you?"
I freeze up, not knowing how to answer that.
"There's...one more thing I should probably apologize for," Sera mumbles, and I turn my head around to face her, "I'm sorry I never called after I left. After coming back, I realised that I missed a lot, we both grew up to be very different people and I...didn't really know who you were anymore. But instead of trying to actually get to know you, I just pretended everything was the same as before. But it's not."
"Communication is a two-way street, Sera," I sigh, my sudden response causing Sera to look up in surprise, "I'm sorry too. I didn't make an effort to get to know you either."
Sera smiles and ruffles my hair, just like she did when we were kids. "I guess we were both pretty dumb, huh?" I nod. "Actually, there's something I haven't been able to tell you...Tae and I had been talking about this for a while, and we finally decided that we're going to live here. We're going to buy a house and start a family here!"
A squeal escapes from my mouth and we're suddenly both jumping up and down in Sera's bedroom. "That's insane! We can hang out all the time, just like old times."
"Just like old times," Sera agreed, "I hope this makes it easier for us to start catching up properly, we have a lot to talk about. Right, maid-of-honour?"
I look up at Sera with wide eyes. "Are you sure you still want me to be your maid-of-honour? It doesn't really feel like—"
"There was never a doubt. You're going to be my maid-of-honour, whether you like it or not!" Sera flashes me a wide smile, which a reciprocate gratefully.
"One more thing, Haera." Sera's sudden serious tone makes my smile drop almost instantly. "Take him back, will you?"
"Lucas?"
"Of course Lucas. I'm really sorry for ruining your relationship with my overthinking, Haera. So please, take him back. That kid really loves you," she says softly.
Lucas' hurt face from our fight a few days ago flashes in my mind.
"But...I hurt him a lot. I don't know if he would want me back," I whisper, my chest tightening with every word.
"I'm sorry—" Sera begins to apologize again but I stop her.
"What's done is done. Maybe it was a sign that we weren't meant to be afterall."
But deep down, I wish we were.
"But you would be happier with him, wouldn't you?"
And I collapse into sobs in Sera's lap.
Hi so I'm pretty much finished with my exams and I'm on holiday break right now. I'll probably start to update this book more and if you read my other two books, Must have been the wind and Livestream, I'll start updating those again too! It's been a while since I wrote a chapter for them so I'm pretty excited
