Chapter 3 - THEN - Winter Weddings

A week went by in a flash, and so did the weekend. Before I realized it was Monday again, I ran to make it for Mr. Tate's class. We only had one class of Advanced Mathematics, and I was grateful for it. It was a tedious subject, to say the least.

I sat in the same seat I had last week and took out my notebook before setting down my bag next to me. My brown hair was tied up in a bun, so it wouldn't keep falling on my face. The teacher wasn't there yet, and we still had five minutes left before class, so I took my pencil and began making swirls on the back of my notebook.

I hadn't made a single friend the entire week. I was still the new loner girl in school. While everyone had their groups made, I spent my lunches sitting under a tree, hoping no one sees me.

I'm a bit of an awkward person, so I'm not able to initiate conversations easily or be more outgoing because I keep thinking I'm going to make a fool of myself.

I was still busy in my swirly doodles when I felt a presence beside me. He plopped his books on the desk and sat down next to me. I didn't realize I had stopped my pencil in its place, but when I did, I continued as if I didn't notice Parker sitting next to me.

"You're not good at that," he commented.

I felt the blood in my body rush to my cheeks at his comment. I could've just shrugged at that and continued my pointless work, but I felt the need to reply to him with more than just a shrug.

"It's a doodle; it's not meant to be a piece of art," I mumbled.

I heard his chuckle, and it made me smile a little that I could give him a fitting reply. Of course, Mr. Tate had to come in at that moment and keep Parker from making any further remarks.

"Mr. Harrison, glad to see there were no early morning doctor's appointments of yours this week."

"I try to stay healthy for your class, sir," Parker replied. Mr. Tate narrowed his eyes at him before deciding that it was probably best to ignore.

I scoffed at Parker's reply, perhaps a little too audibly, because he looked over at me and raised his eyebrows in amusement.

"Let's start with the class, my not-so-wise students."

"Hi, there!" A blond figure jumped in front, startling me as I was making my way to my next class.

"Umm, hello!"

Why was this person talking to me...?

"My name is Elizabeth, Elizabeth Fulton, but everyone calls me Lizzie." She struck out a hand for me to shake. And I felt sort of relieved. Someone was reaching out to me.

"Hi, my name is Rosalyn." I shook her hand and smiled.

"Oh, I know, you're the new student! I've seen you around! We're in quite a few classes together..."

"Ohh, cool. Nice to meet you, Lizzie."

"You wanna join my friends and me during lunch?" She asked. I felt a surge of happiness go through me, that I finally knew someone in this school.

"That sounds great. I'd love to."

Lizzie seemed like a nice person, from what I could gauge with our limited conversation.

We met up during the lunch break at the cafeteria entrance. She introduced me to her group of friends.

There was Tyler, his girlfriend Ashley, Austin, his sister Hilary, Cole, and Bella.
