Chapter Six

After nearly two weeks of working on Mato and Kala's cabin, we had finally finished. It's amazing how fast something like that can get done when you have a whole pack for people working on it.

Takoda and I had found ourselves in a bit of a routine. During the day we would work on the cabin but at night we would eat dinner around the fire while he taught me his language. I was picking it up fast, but it seemed that there was so much yet to learn.

Some days we would spend time tending to Takoda's garden and then use the fresh produce for dinner. I had a large garden back home and was enjoying teaching Takoda my tips and tricks. In turn, Takoda had noticed I have a bit of a sweet tooth and started teaching me how to make desserts out of the fruit trees on his land.

We had grown quite comfortable with each other and I found it harder and harder to think of leaving him. Maybe I didn't have to. I had already been here for weeks and there had been no trouble. Takoda's pack was small and hidden in the deep forests of the North. I rarely saw Takoda in communication with other packs and had only seen him send out a handful of letters. Maybe I could hide here. Maybe we could be happy here. Maybe this was my second chance.

The pack was celebrating the completion of the cabin by having a get together of sorts. Takoda and I had stayed up late the night before to cook up some treats to bring with us. I also ended up waking up quite early in the morning to get ready.

With my new hope that maybe I could stay, I wanted to try out looking like a Luna, to show my pack who I could be for them. Or who I wanted to be.

I searched through the clothes that Takoda gifted me which I later found out used to be his mothers. In the dresser was a beautiful mid length dress made out of deer hide dyed to a deep dark blue. It had fringe details with a mixture of delicate feathers and sky blue beads. It was perfect for the occasion. The top of it sat tight against my breasts but it had long sleeves that would keep me warm during the chill of night. I noticed that these clothes were starting to feel snug rather than loose on my frame. Good, I thought, that means I'm gaining the strength I lost back.

The other day Kala had taught me how to make dyes for skin out of the plants around us. She even gifted me with some that would bring color to the face when applied. In the bathroom I added some of the pink color to my cheeks and lips for a natural flushed look. I also added some lavender oil to my neck. I was almost ready, but I needed my mates help for the last part.

I knocked on Takoda's door, immediately hearing a muffled "Come in." I opened the door to see his back turned to me while he tied a leather necklace around his bare neck.

"Sorry to bother you, I was just wondering if you would mind braiding my hair again?" I admired his bare back that looked darker against the light color of the wool pants he wore. The pants were loose around his manly bits and got tighter until they stopped just under his knees.

"I'd love to." He said turning around.

His eyes darkened and his tongue flicked out to lick his lips as he finally laid his eyes on me. A low growl filled up the room and made his wolf side known. My cheeks blushed at his reaction. It was amazing we had been ignoring our wolves for so long. Most mates are mated and marked a couple hours after meeting. I'm thankful Koda has given me the time and space to become comfortable here, I'm sure it was easy for him. Afterall, male wolves often feel a much stronger urge to claim and mark their females.

His eyes soon returned to their usual walnut color and he lifted up his hand for me to take. He led me to his bed, the smell of him overwhelming my senses. He sat behind me and took his time braiding sections of my hair. I let my eyes close as I savored the feeling of his warm hands running through my hair. When he finally tied the last end off with a leather band, he dropped his hands to my shoulders. His rough pads slowly slid over my skin, sending shivers down my spine. He buried his nose into my now exposed neck, breathing in my scent. "You are so beautiful, Ma-Zhonta." His full lips brushed against my neck as he spoke, sending warmth to my belly.
