"Skinny" Weight and body image in America
That's what I see
Words I desperately avoid
Are splayed out on the screen
Was this for learning?
Was it intended?
Reigniting a yearning
I thought I finally ended
Teacher thinks that our brains are molded
I'm her hands gently folded
If only someone to her had scolded
Be careful with those words they are like guns locked and loaded

I stay after class
And formulate a question I'm terrifying to ask
Teacher could you excuse me please
I'm back on the floor with my head on my knees

If only I had a stronger voice
Had clear and effective words of choice
If only I was louder than the noise in my ears
But when I shut my eyes my reality disappears

So skinny in America is your topic of debate
But it seems to me that your simply trying to celebrate
A collection of kids who have battled so hard
Only until today in class when in your very hands that they trusted they fell apart
