"I think we should go to a party or dinner tonight after we finish" Rory takes a sip of her coffee. We're on our way home from getting breakfast and coffee for everybody.
Today we were supposed to be painting the house but if I'm being completely honest, I really don't feel like doing all that today and Rory don't feel like doing it either.
"Shi, we should go before we paint. Let Tori and Lia do the ork"
"Bro, we should actually have a paint party. Like invite a bunch of random people and let them throw paint around and stuff"
I side eye her "You have lost y-"
The center screen in the car flashes

Melo (Eli friend)
ACCEPT DECLINE
"Hey, you're on speaker. Rory's in the car"
"Hey Rory," Melo clears his throat "Uh, Riri, you tryna do sumn tonight?"
Rory begins jumping around in her seat "Y-"
"No," I interrupt Rory and side eye her "I'm actually painting the house today. Sorry"
"Where you drivin?" Melo asks
"Huh?"
"Where are you going? You said Rory was in the car, meaning that yall are going somewhere"
"Oh, we on the way back to the house"
"Ight, I'll see you later"
"Um, no. I'm busy, I can't do anything tonight"
"Yea, I heard" Melo hangs up
"The fuck does that even mean"
"Gurl why did you decline the date?" Rory punches me in the arm
"Ow! What fuckin date?"
"The date he just asked you on, dodobird"
"Gurl, aint nobody got time fo a damn date"
"You was just complaining about not wanting to paint. This coulda been your ticket out"
I shrug and pull into the driveway

"I got it" I make my way to the door. Upon opening it I see Melo, Eli, Don and Quan staring at me
"Hi? We're kinda busy right now. Sorry" I try to close the door but Eli stops it with his foot
"We came to help" he says
"Nigga you aint neva wanted to help nobody, get the fuck" I laugh and try closing the door again
"Yea, go on head and open that door woman" Melo pushes past me and walks into the house
"Ooohh this is nice" he looks around as the rest of the guys come inside
"If yall gonna be here yall gotta help" Tori doesn't even glance up from the border she's painting
"Yea go on head and start laying down the tarps in the dining room and tape the walls" Lia says, still focused on taping the walls neatly.
"No typa greeting" Eli side eyes me
"Get to work" I buck at him. He stares at me for a moment before hitting me upside the head
"Don't get beside yoself" he mumbles before walking away
