Sometimes I sit and wonder
Trying to see and ponder
Hoping am not a coward
Hoping Nigeria moves forward,
Suffering in silence for ages
Now flipping through new pages
Its not just for us
Its not for our families, or children
Change is not a context
Killing people like it's a contest,
When all we do is protest.
Suddenly the lights go out
Sitting and praying with no doubt
Just then we start to wonder and pout
Whether we will survive
Or live to tell the story.
Praying help is coming soon
Since UN said they are watching our every groove,
Starving, stabbings and wounds hoping our leaders will make a move.
Innocent, they claim
When we don't see whose to blame
Hopefully we learn to fight in peace
But if you can pick the pace
Run, not because you are cowards
But because a day will come
The battle will stop, we will fight and be free again.
Because the story we ended today may start with a new variation.
This is not the end,
Not even close
Though it's not what we hope for
Its not a remedy to our problems
But what we fought, fight against
Becomes our saviour today.
Being heroes for our rights,
The young ones who can't see the light.
We found a way to keep it alive,
Making hope our camouflage.
We ain't heroes , don't want to be seen as one,
We know the darkness all to well to stand down and let others live in it.
For this, we fight.
Keep fighting, Nigerians.
