Sophie's POV
I get up super early the next morning to avoid the wake up routine from Dad, and have showered and eaten breakfast by the time they get up.
I'm in the midst of making my pack lunch when Father comes down to make him and Dad coffee. They always have some when Dad gets out of his shower.
"Oh! Sophie. You're up earlier than normal." He looks surprised and slightly taken aback to see me stood cutting cheese for my sandwich.
I simply shrug, not in the mood to speak and finish up my lunch, filling my water bottle before he can try to do it for me.
He sighs, feeling pushed away by my lack of accepting any help from him.
By the time Dad appears downstairs, I am completely ready for school, sitting at the kitchen table, doing some last minute homework while I wait for it to be time to leave.
"You're up early, Sophie." He comments quietly, seeming slightly sad he didn't get to mess around with me this morning.
The sadness in his eyes spreads to the rest of his face and his posture, as I don't reply due to the anger still bubbling away inside me.
Father shoots a worried glance at Dad, as awkward silence falls upon us.
Dad sighs. "Soph... If this is your way of trying to get us to change our minds about grounding you, it's not going to work. It may seem harsh, but you need to learn it's not alright to behave as you did."
"I've got to go to school." I say simply, and slip my shoes on, grabbing my bag.
"Hang on a minute, and I'll drive you." Dad tells me and heads to get his jacket.
"I'm getting the bus." I tell him and Father monotonously, turning to the door.
"Well have you got your phone, at least...?" Father checks, upset by the wedge driven between me and them.
"No." I answer truthfully before quickly walking out of the house, and running to the bus stop, just as the bus pulled up.
I get on, pay for my ticket and sit in a window seat, using my old fashioned MP3 player to listen to music, since I left my phone at home.
Seven songs later, we reach the school, and upon getting off the bus I sit on a bench near the school entrance to wait for Aaliya.
"Sophie!" She spots me when she arrives, and hurries over. "Are you okay? What happened? Did you get in too much trouble?"
"I'm fine..." I shrug. "I got grounded though. I'm not allowed to the skate park till Dad decides I've learnt my lesson..." I sigh, and we walk slowly inside. "Ive probably made it worse this morning, to be honest. I refused to let Dad drive me to school, and I purposely left my phone at home..."
"Ouch." She winces. "I feel really bad for you. It's our fault as well, cause we told you to come quickly."
"No, it's not your fault. It's mine. I should have just written them a note, or texted as I meant to." I scuff my feet along the floor.
An arm is thrown over my shoulders, and Zack grins at us. "So how are you two?"
"I'm okay." Aaliya smiles, her whole demeanor cheering up at his appearance.
"Grounded." I mutter.
"Ouch. Your parents were really mad then?" He frowns slightly.
I simply nod, and walk into the classroom, flopping down into my seat.
Zack and Aaliya sit in their usual spots, and just as Zack goes to say something to us, the teacher walks in.
