Birds were chirping, enjoying the cool breeze. Trees and bushes were dancing with the rhythm of the wind. Dewdrops were falling from the leaves of the plants. The fishes were swimming tranquilly in the fish pond and the golden sun shone, greeting every living creature.
It was the most perfect day for anyone to be strolling around and have fun... or maybe not.
One certain person couldn't even lift his lips to smile an inch. He couldn't even enjoy the current situation now.
He had just opened his eyes and woke up to a very quiet atmosphere — his house — all alone.
He, then, let out an annoyed groan when memories started piercing his mind, making him remember everything vividly.
'Ten years...' He massaged the bridge of his nose while trying to calm himself.
Ten years have passed ever since the Demon Slayer Corps disbanded; Ten years have passed since the head of all demons, Kibutsuji Muzan, perished;
Ten years have passed ever since it ended.
Tomioka Giyu could only sigh and be more than thankful that their plan to eliminate all demons didn't fail. Well, it did cost a lot of sacrifices which made him feel bad almost every time he thinks of it.
He suddenly remembered Kamado Tanjiro, the boy whom he secretly sent to his master after failing to save the family living in the mountains. Turns out that that was the kid's family.
Fighting the monsters alongside Tanjiro was challenging for him. Every movement they made was equivalent to something. One wrong move or one wrong swing of a blade could've been the cause of the nation's fall.
Lots of demon slayers dedicated their lives in executing Muzan, resulting to an inevitable death — unforgettable deaths including to what has happened to the Ubuyashiki family... and their other comrades. Even some demons helped in accomplishing the plan.
Giyu's gaze fell onto his right arm as uneasiness and fear struck him again. A huge scar was visible in his arm as a sign of triumph against the demons. This was something he's sure he can never forget since he sees it everyday.
Until today, he still does the Total Concentration Breathing to keep his cool. He didn't want to be insane just because of that foul past. He's also relieved that he didn't lose an arm when he battled Muzan.
Giyu shook his head from the thoughts and sighed. He knew he musn't dwell on the dark past everyone has been through.
'I need to clear my mind.' He took his faded mismatched haori and wore it. Not over a Demon Slayer uniform this time, but just above a plain kimono.
He was about to get up from bed when he touched a familiar textured cloth beside him. He bit his lips first before shifting his gaze to another faded haori.
A butterfly-printed haori was folded neatly beside him and the sight of it really made him feel bad.
Not because he didn't like it, but because she wasn't here with him.
He felt like there was a needle piercing his heart at the sight of it, but what made him feel worse was the accessory above it.
It was the necklace he gave him years ago, when their love was still... pure and innocent.
