1st person POV
Sunny.
Windy.
The perfect day for a picnic. Saturday morning.
We planned on going to the beach today but there was a shark spotted not too long ago, so we decided on going to our favorite spot for our picnic. As we drove I noticed Eli was acting a little bit strange. He kept looking at me then going back to the window, but he could just be a little worried. He can be like that sometimes. If anything happens to anyone he becomes very cautious for the next few days.//Time Skip\\
Finally.
"Okay! We're here!" I could just see the worry fading away from his face.
"Here. I'll get the basket and you go set up the blanket!" He seemed happy. Smiling at me with the biggest grin I've ever seen.
Following his instructions, I started walking to the hill where we would always have picnics. We've been best friends since we were little, so we had a lot of secrets. Like one time we went into the girl's bathroom and stole all the paper towel. We were about 9 so we didn't think about what would happen. We've been through highs and lows together. Ever staying, comforting each other. I lost my youngest sister and it was my fault, but even though I was a 'murderer' Eli stayed with me. When his first girlfriend broke up with him, I was there. Throughout these years we've always had one spot we'd go to. Here. Our picnic hill. We never made a better name for it, so picnic hill kinda stuck.
Finally, I reached the top of the hill, looking down to see Eli just got to the bottom of the hill. I set the blanket up under the willow tree, smoothing out the bumps and moving rocks out of the way.
Just as I put the last rock down Eli came into view. Making it to the top where I stood. I gestured him to get over here and he sighed, lifting the heavy basket for me to take from him.
"Ugh, here let me take it!" I said storming over and snatching it from him. As I did so I felt like it was wrong of me. I can do that sometimes, act before thinking, or react poorly to situations that have the opposite intentions.
"Oh! Sorry, Eli... I'm just a little-"
"Hey, it's fine. I know you have trouble with your emotions at times." He looked at me with kindness.
"Thanks, Eli..." I mumbled, not wanting to just think it, having a chance he'd hear it. As I turned back to him I caught a glance of his warm, welcoming smile, just before he covered his happiness with worry.
"So... why'd you want to have a picnic?" I asked him, wanting to know what was bothering my best friend so much.
"Well... it's our last week together so I figured we could go on a.. vacation?" He looked up at me, possibly worried I would refuse. And I looked back at him with an excited look on my face, he almost instantly knew what I was going to say.
"Of course! What type?!" I probably sounded like a little kid getting exactly what they wanted for Christmas.
"Awesome! It's a cruise..?" He seemed unsure of what it was called, so to clarify I asked him if it was a boat.
"Yes. Yes, it's a boat! And it's huge! There's a swimming pool, ballroom, tons of balconies, and even one of those tiki bar things!" He sounded ecstatic. Rambling on and on about the cruise he planned to take me on. As he spoke I noticed he always came back to the pool... it's probably because we couldn't go to the beach today, or something else. I've always had a suspicion that he liked me, but he never gave huge hints. Just little things like getting flustered about sharing a bed, wanting to hold my hand during a scary movie 'just in case I got scared', and even having staring contests at random times. All of these things could just be what normal best friends do, or it could be him trying to get closer to me. Just as my thoughts went wild I heard a sound.
Music.
I look up to see Eli holding out a hand for me to grab, most likely to dance. So I grabbed his hand. He pulled me up and wrapped his arms around my waist, which was weird. We're both guys so it was strange not taking the lead, but I was always the 'female' out of the two of us. Once he asked me to make dinner for him as I'm the 'wife'. We both broke down laughing after as I have no idea how to cook, and we both knew that.
'I could get lost in his eyes for hours...' WHAT!? what am I thinking! We're just dancing! Although... I'm not wrong...
We swayed to the song. It was classical, my favorite. He would always do things like that for me, have my favorite of something just to make me happy.
His hands slowly went down to the pockets of my jeans, while his head rested on my shoulder, me being the shorter one out of us two. I flinched at the sudden movement of his hands going further down my back, but I stayed as still as possible. We had these moments sometimes, romantic but we wouldn't talk about it later. His hands went in my back pockets and his head laying on my shoulder while I just stand there, still swaying to the song. My arms were still around his neck, lose.
Soon the song ended and I let him go, trying to pull away. But as I did so he held me tighter and whispered in my ear.
"Please, just stay with me like this for a little longer."
I put my arms back around him, signaling that I'd do as he requested. We stood like that for what felt like seconds but were really minutes. We finally broke apart as a large breeze swooped up our blanket, almost pulling it away if our basket wasn't there.
We went back to the picnic as if we didn't just spend 10 minutes hugging each other. I opened the basket full of goodies Eli made for us. It had everything you could imagine, from muffins to spaghetti, fruits to vegetables, bread to ice cream. I always love it when he cooks and bakes for me, he always adds something to his food that makes it so delicious. I still can't figure out what it is, and any time he makes anything for anyone besides me it tastes horrible. I can't seem to find out why.
We started to eat joyously, munching on the turkey sandwiches and strawberries. I look up at Eli sadly when I realized there's no sugar for the strawberries, to which he just smiled and pulled out a small packet of sugar from his coat. He also looked at the back of my jeans as if to say there's more in your pockets, and sure enough, there is. He must've put them there when we were dancing erm hugging? Whatever we were doing. I happily thank him for remembering my love of sugar-covered strawberries, he just chuckles in response.
Time flies and it's around 2 pm so we decide to head back home, wanting to pack for the cruise tomorrow. Eli drove us home seeing as I drove us there. When we got home he wrote some things down and gave the list to me. It looked as though it was a list of what I need.
-Swimsuit
-2 shirts
-1/2 pants
-shoes (normal/flip flops)
-books?
-phone charger & phone
We both went to our rooms to pack, I left my door open just in case Eli needed something. I grabbed a few things out of my closet, and then I felt something on my hand moving. I look down a there's a spider!
"Ahhh! Spider!" Gosh, I sounded like a little girl screaming. But as soon as the scream came out of my mouth Eli was in my doorway. He ran over to me and smacked the spider. After it was dead he hugged me, making sure I was alright. I once saw a spider and fainted, so he knows how scared of them I am.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah... thanks." I mumbled the last part as I don't like to show affection or even appreciation.
I looked at him and his face showed that he knew he was special to me. I only ever say 'thank you' and 'I'm sorry' to people that mean a lot to me, and he knows this. But like all good, romantic moments something had to ruin it. He looked at my closet to make sure there were no more spiders and he saw it.
"Hey, Blu? What's that."
"Uhh... nothing important Eli!"Word count: 1,500
