Hard Reset

The episode opens six months later after the events from the season one finale, "Shutdown". Ever since Tari and Alyx left their friends and fell into the hands of Alyx's father, Lucks, the two girls found themselves as TASCorp's newest Meta Runner (Tari) and the return of their most prized video game champion (Alyx), along with Belle.

Lucks has been working on Tari and Alyx so hard that both their hands have become sore. Memories of the past have been flooding each of their minds, too.

"Both your last plays were sloppy. You two hesitate on your movements. I expect you two to improve on this before the show. Understood?", Lucks said. "Yes, sir.", Tari replied back.

"Yes, dad.", Alyx replied, with her head down, sadly. "The press junkets will start soon. You'll both be given a list to talking points. You two will memorize them before hand.", Lucks said.

"Yes, sir.", Tari replied back. "Yes, dad.", Alyx replied back, too.

"And you're both going to get your accuracy rating up beyond 98%. Training starts tomorrow at 7 AM. Be there on time.", Lucks said. "We want to see him, dad. It's been weeks since the last time you let us see him and our deal was that Tari would work for you and I'd return to TASCorp as long as he was safe. But, how do we both know he's safe if you never let me or Tari-", Alyx said.

Suddenly, a large screen turned on in front of the two girls, revealing Theo who was trapped inside a digital room. "Theo!", Tari and Alyx both exclaimed.

"Tari! Alyx!", Theo exclaimed. He then runs straight at the wall, knowing that he is still trapped in a room.

"Are you okay?", Tari asked. "I'm okay! Are you two okay? What's been going on with you and Alyx? Too many questions, Theo. Get it together!", Theo said.

"Theo, it's all right. Have they been treating you alright?", Alyx asked him. "Yeah, I'm just bored. All I have is this other tomato to talk to. I miss Sofia, Lamar, and Masa.", Theo said.

"Us too. But, I'm sure we'll see them again.", Tari told him. "Wait, really? You two promise?", Theo asked.

"We promise.", Alyx answered him. "You both have an early training session tomorrow. Don't be late.", Lucks said.

"Yes, sir.", Tari replied back. "Yes, dad.", Alyx replied.

Elsewhere, Lamar and Sofia were traveling around the city looking for Masa, until they arrive at a strange location. "You sure we're gonna find him here, Sofia? This place is literally rock bottom.", Lamar said.

"I also didn't think he'd abandon us at the arena. But, I guess Masa's just full of surprises.", Sofia told him. "Man, Masa... What did you get yourself into?", Lamar muttered.

Masa was seen at a hidden arcade, challenging people at video games. He's been trying to gain money to get a new Meta Runner arm, ever since he lost his in "Shutdown". 

"Been a while, man. Still remember us?", Lamar asked. "You know, we were really worried about you. You just disappeared after that mess at the arena and we rely on internet rumors to track you down. We're MD-5, Masa. We're supposed to be a team.", Sofia said. 

"We're finished, Sofia. There is no more MD-5. Lucks won, we had one shot and we threw it away.", Masa told her. "Not necessarily. Our plan at the arena wasn't a total disaster. We still might have one teensy chance left.", Sofia said. 

"If you hadn't been so edgy earlier and ditched us, we could've told you all this earlier.", Lamar added. "Before Lucks wiped my laptop, I managed to make a backup of a server on my phone.", Sofia told Masa. 

"Well, what are we waiting for? If we have the server then let's release it. We can ruin Lucks right now.", Masa said. "I didn't say I had the server. I said it's on my phone and right now my phone is with someone else.", Sofia said. 

As it turns out, Belle is seen having Sofia's phone and was trying to hack into the server, but she had no avail. "Sofia... This is what we meant when we said you're too smart, sometimes.", Belle sighed. 

Suddenly, another Meta Runner named Evelyn appeared and walked into Belle's room. "For the last time, Evelyn, knock before you burst into my room.", Belle said, annoyed. 

"Belle, does Lucks hate me?", Evelyn asked her. "Seeing as how he's about to bring you into the main lineup, I would doubt it.", Belle replied. 

"Then, why doesn't he give me exhibition matches like he does for that blue-haired science experiment and traitor?! Be honest, would you rather play with me or them?", Evelyn complained. "You, I guess. But, don't call Alyx a traitor! She was just mislead, that's all. Look, I don't like having Tari around any more than you do. Especially near Alyx. But, Lucks went through a lot of effort just to get Tari and bring Alyx back.", Belle told her. 

"Maybe we'll get lucky. Maybe she'll abandon the team like Alyx and Lucinia did.", Evelyn said. "Hey! Alyx may have abandon us before, but Lucinia did not! She's just... gone.", Belle said. 

"Why?", Evelyn asked her. "That's what I'd like to know.", Belle answered. 

"Well, I can see you're upset. I know how close you were to Lucinia and Alyx, even if she had betrayed us. I shouldn't have brought it up. I'll just leave for now.", Evelyn said, before walking away. "I'll figure something out. I promise...", Tari, Alyx, and Belle all said to themselves, as the episode ends.
