We pile in the Volvo again after school. Gym is my last class so I follow Alice with to the car. On our trip she asks, “Are you okay?”

“I don’t know,” I sigh. “I feel like something bad is coming, but I might just be paranoid.”

“I get that feeling,” She chuckles to her self - like it is some inside joke. “I think you are fine, anyone in your place would be in so much worse shape. It’s hard not remembering your past isn’t it.”

“Yeah,” I sigh.

“I used to be like that, so it does get better,” She states.

“Use to be like what?” Bella asks getting into the silver car.

“Like Violet,” Alice says.

“When we get to the house, Alice, don’t torture Violet,” Edward says.

“Me?”

“And she should probably meet the rest of the family,” He adds.

Alice doesn’t respond. I catch her looking off into space, all emotion void of her face. “Alice?”

When she doesn’t respond, Bella and Edward glance at her. “Alice!” Edward calls, turning his attention back to the road.

She blinks and looks up, “What?”

“Don’t you think she has to meet the rest of the family?”

“Of course, I’ll have to do something when we get home, but I’ll be back in an hour. Edward, I’m taking this car,” She says as we pull up in front of the house.

Edward keeps his door open for Alice to get into the driver’s seat. Then, he opens the door for Bella. I am already out of the car and follow the couple into the large house. It is charming in a unique way. It doesn’t look very modern, but I think that is what I like about it. The cream-colored house is three stories tall with a wooden porch wrapped around the first level. Although the house looks old, none of the steps even creak as we walk into the house.

We are greeted by a woman with caramel colored hair and a heart shaped face.

“This is Violet, Bella’s step-sister,” Edward explains.

“Hello, Violet, you can call me Esme,” The woman smiles.

“Hi, Esme. You’re Edward and Alice’s adoptive mother?”

“I am,” She smiles. “The others are in the main room, why don’t you three join them?”

“When will Carlisle be back from work?” Edward asks.

“Not too long from now. I’m sure he’ll love to meet Violet.”

“Bella, can you take Violet to meet the others? I want to talk to Esme,” Edward leaves Bella’s side and I follow Bella around the corner into a living room.

A couple sit on the couch. The woman is strikingly beautiful with long blonde hair, pale skin and golden eyes. The man has the same hair and skin tone, but his hair is dark and curly and he is very brawny. Wow - all these adoptive siblings really look alike, yet they don’t. The lack of sunlight explains the pallor, but how do they all have the same eye color? Perched on the stairs, only a few feet behind the couch is... a lean blond man. I blink and he is still there. Am I going crazy?

The man’s golden eyes meet mine and then he looks over to Bella. “Violet, this is Rosalie, Emmett, and Jasper, she is my step-sister,” She catches Jasper’s gaze and looks to me.

“FRESH MEAT!” Emmett cheers. The brawny man gets up and give me a bear hug like we knew each other forever. In the embrace I experience it again. Why does this keep happening?

Emmett is tan, his eyes are bright blue instead of gold and he is covered in blood. His clothes are tattered and he is cowering underneath a menacing grizzly bear. Out of nowhere, the bear disappears and Rosalie, who has burgundy eyes, appears in front of him like an angel. She picks him up effortlessly and they disappear into the woods.

“Hey, are you alright?” I blink and meet Emmett’s gaze. I catch Rosalie, Bella and Jasper staring at me.

“Yeah... I’m fine.”

“You got really pale, I mean you still are, but it was like you were dead for a second,” He comments.

“He’s right, I thought we might have to call Carlisle,” Rosalie chimes in.

I sigh, “I am fine. This... happens.”

“What?”

“I don’t know... spacing out?”

“I can’t be healthy,” Rosalie notes.

“Have you guys seen Alice?” Jasper asks.

“She said she would be back within an hour,” I answer. “And this is going to sound weird, but you look really familiar.”

“Familiar?” He repeats.

“Yeah, I think I’ve seen you before,” I explain.

“I don’t think-”

“I’m not saying I have, you might be an old imaginary friend or something, but I’m just saying I think I’ve seen you before, there was this... dream. In a diner, I’m pretty sure that is where it was-”

“That’s not weird,” Emmett says sarcastically.

“I’m sorry, I just talk out loud sometimes. There are these things I really don’t understand,” I sigh.

“Violet is like Alice,” Bella clarifies. I send her a confused look.

“Like Alice?” Jasper asks.

“She really doesn’t remember her past at all.”

“Like amnesia?” Emmett asks.

“No, I can remember all of this, but it is everything before my accident...”

“Violet you don’t have to...”

“Bella, I feel like if I’m going to be intruding on your boyfriend’s family I may as well let everyone judge me on the truth. Or at least what I have been told is the truth.”

“You aren’t intruding-”

“As I was saying, there was this accident-”

“What kind of accident?” Rosalie asks.

“I’m not sure. I just remember waking up in the hospital. The whole ‘Congrats you’re an orphan!’ or ‘Congrats you’re parents don’t want you!’ explanation from the nurses. They tried to get me to remember my past, but nothing has worked. I was living on my own for awhile until, I was taken in by Charlie and Bella.

“Today, has just been weird. So I apologize for my spacing out. It must be the lack of sleep. I barely slept last night. I thought I would be fine, but I suppose not.”

Edward enters the living room and interrupts my rant, “Carlisle is here.”
