Jace's POV
The lady at the front desk tells me Bella's station and I make my way there right away. I open the door and see an assistant treating the wound on her leg.
"Hey you" she says with a smile on her face. She keeps her eyes on me as the assistant dabs the pad on her leg, removing the blood.
"What happened?" I ask.
"Long story" she chuckles. "I'll tell you when we get back" she says. It's when I lift my head that I see Christina standing in the corner. I glance at her and she smiles at me.
"Are you hurting?" I ask and point at her leg.
"Not at all, it's just a little wound" she answers.
"I love your bravery, but that is not just a little wound. You were basically stabbed. The doctor will suture it so the wound can heal" the assistant says and removes the bloody pad from her leg.
"I'm such an idiot" I whisper under my breath.
"Why would you say that?" she asks.
"Because I was dumb enough to let you go alone" I answer.
"It's not your fault. Not at all" she says. "Where is Ty?" a question follows.
"He was asleep. I didn't wake him up" I answer.
"He is gong to be mad" she warns me.
"I know but I could not give a shit less" I reply and take a look at her wound. Soon after, the doctor examines her leg and gives his permission to go home.
We step out of the hospital, Christina following us. "I will call a taxi" I say and take out my phone. Soon enough, the taxi arrives and we reach the campus in ten minutes. I thank the driver after paying him and step out of the car.
Bella's POV
Christina doesn't leave my side till we get to my room. Jace has been helping me as well. When he offered to carry me, I felt overwhelmed by his worry but told him that there was no need to do so.
"Are you alright?" Christina asks while keeping her eyes on the wound.
"It'll heal" I almost whisper. "You can leave if you want, I'm tired anyways, I need to sleep" I sigh.
"Thank you. You saved my life and I don't know where I would be right now or what he would have done to me if you weren't there" she says with deep sadness in her eyes. They fill up with water, and as she tries to fight them back, they burst out of her eyes, one tear after another rapidly running down her check.
"Who was that anyway?" I suddenly realized that I saved her from a person I don't know.
She sighed and took a deep breath before answering. "I should tell you that in private" she said quietly and looked Jace in the eyes. I understood right away what her looks meant.
"Jace could you please give us a moment?" I ask him. Without saying a word, he stands up and leaves the room.
"Now can I please know who stabbed me in the leg?" I ask her as she takes a seat on the chair right in front of me.
"His name is Richard" she says and stops.
"Interesting" I sarcastically remark.
"I don't work, I have no money. I once met him in a bar. He came up to me, bought me a drink. We had a quite long conversation. I was desperate at that time and saw him as an opportunity. Turns out he was some millionaire"
"So you say"
"Well anyways we started meeting up often and he started paying for my stuff. He bought me the most expensive things, things I never had. He payed for my tuition. At first he always said that he did everything because he wanted to, because he loved me. After some time he started to want something in change" she stops.
"Let me guess. Sweets? A diamond ring? A Ferrari?" I ask and watch her eyes fill up with anger.
"Me. He wanted me. My body, to be exact" she says as her hands start shaking.
"So you agreed to do whatever he wanted?" I open my eyes widely and look at her.
She swallows and takes a deep breath before answering. "Yes. I didn't have any other choice."
No other choice? Why did she never consider working? What about her parents?
"What about your parents? Can't they help you?" I curiously ask.
"I don't have a healthy relationship with my parents. they never raised me like normal parents. They never cared for the things that I did, never guided me in any way, never helped me with my decisions. I was basically free to do whatever I wanted to do. Unfortunately, that was never a positive thing for me. I did so many things I regret, so many bad decisions I wish I could reverse. I remember always wishing to be put up for adoption, because then I would have parents who actually wanted the best for me." she stops and grasps for air.
"Once I turned 16, I went to live with my best friend and her family. Their family was really accepting and loving. They never judged me, never belittled me. In fact they did the opposite of what my parents did, they cared for me, treated me like their own daughter, helped me with my decisions, gave me advices and supported me whenever I needed it. It's when I moved in with her that I realised that I wanted to have a great future and study to become someone." she quietly tells.
I had never thought that she had such a miserable life. I feel very sorry for her. But it still doesn't explain why she is in the situation that she is now.
"That still doesn't explain everything." I say.
"I can't explain everything, my life is very complicated." she states.
"Why did you drug Ty?" I ask and she freezes. Her eyes don't move and she stops breathing.
"I know that it was you, you are not running away from this. Tell me why you did it, so you don't have to face harsh consequences" I say and find myself sounding like a cop.
