And word of contest spread so wide
To merry men in country side.
They heard the tale and fear a snare
That only Robin Hood would dare.

They go to find their bandit chief
The slyest fox the prince of thief's.
And spy him stringing bow in glade
His face was hard his mind was made.

Then Little John the Largest Man
In all of Robins merry band
Did step from throng his mind to speak
His voice was bold yet words were meek

"As all your friendly fellows know
No man can match your skill with bow.
So yield not health to stubborn pride
Remain in woods where bandits hide.

And seek not glory far from aid
Of merry men who live in glade.
For wicked sheriffs made his plans
He'll have you chained in iron bands."

For moment silence rules the day
Then up he stands to have his say
"What horrid price does pride decree
But Robin Hood will pay its fee.

At contest thief will meet his fate
At hands of sheriff's putrid hate.
For Marian Maid's in need of help
Whose tacit aid has help'd us dwelt.

In forest long with little fear
And drink from stream and eat of deer.
But fear not friends I've plan a path
That yields not life to sheriff wrath."

And William Scarlet kindred close
Who looked like bandit chief the most,
And shot a bow almost as good
As famous archer Robin Hood.

Was bid to draw away and stand
A part from rest of merry band.
And swap his scarlet hood for green
And listen close to Robins' scheme.
