Smile tho 'your heart is aching
Smile even tho 'it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
You'll get by

Jerry's hand movements stopped. Then, he tapped a small teaspoon on the edge of the cup, as he put it on the table. The sound of thunder trying to break through the gray cloud in the sky, came back again.

If you smile
Thro 'your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shin-ing thro 'for you

Jerry's feet then moved a little pushing the bottom of the table. His body twisted slightly. He repeated it several times.

Light up your face with gladness
Hide ev-'ry trace of sadness
Altho 'a tear may be ever so near
That's the time

The tips of his fingers gently gripped the edge of the table. Jerry fell silent. He watched the thin white smoke rising from the surface of the tea.

You must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying

Thunder growled softly again. Jerry looked at his classic gramophone which was still spinning. Then, he looked up. Someone knocked on the door of his room.

You'll find that life is still worth-while
If you just smile

"Come in." []
