Not sure what to call this. It's not fluff, but not angst, so... I dunno. You tell me.
This is after the Toppat Recruits ending. Hope y'all like it.
Have a great day, or night, depending on where you're at, and I'll catch y'all later!

Henry tugged at his collar, trying to loosen it without it being noticeable. He hated formal clothing. It was way too uncomfortable. People who could wear it 24/7 were insane.
Speaking of which...
Sven pulled Henry's hand down and adjusted his collar, tightening the tie to the point of strangulation. "Stop complaining. It's not that bad."
"Yes it is," Henry grumbled. "How do you breathe in this?"
"The same way you breathe in jeans and a t-shirt," Sven said with a wry smile. "With your lungs."
"Har har." Henry batted away Sven's hand as the younger Toppat started combing a hand through his hair. "What are you doing?! Stop that! Personal space, jeez!"
"I'm fixing your hair," Sven said calmly. "You can't just go into the most prestigious formal party in the country looking like you just ran through a windstorm."
"Says you! What is this, hair gel?" Henry asked, patting Sven's hair.
"Yes. Maybe we should get some for you," Sven suggested, almost as an afterthought."
Henry shook his head. "Absolutely not! Are you trying to kill me?"
"No, I'm trying to win," Sven said. He fixed Henry's tie one more time, then combed through Henry's hair again and stepped back, eyeing him critically. "Alright, I guess you'll do for now. Don't fidget or play with your collar, don't mess up your hair, and don't loosen your tie. We're going into one of the hardest to infiltrate buildings in the country, and you cannot raise suspicion."
"Yeah, yeah. I'll be fine," Henry said.
Sven nodded and held out a hand to Henry. "Then let's go crash a party."
~Time Skip~
Every year, around the same time, the Toppats had a competition. They found the most important even, the hardest to sneak into place, usually hosted by rich and important people, and they crashed it.
They could do this either individually or as a pair, and they had to infiltrate the event. They could break in, sneak in, any strategy they chose.
Usually there was some sort of goal. Sometimes it was who could steal the most valuables. Sometimes it was who could survive undetected by security the longest.
This time, it was a race to steal a specific item. Whoever could get the Crown Jewels of England and get out without getting caught first would win. There was no second or third place this year. It was a win or lose contest.
Henry and Sven had ended up partners almost accidentally. They had both been early to some board meeting to prevent boredom. The contest had come up as a subject, and they'd realized that together they had a wide variety of skills.
Henry was better at the busting in, getting out, thievery department. His plan had been a direct attack to the Crown.
Sven, however, was more skilled with disguises, infiltration, espionage. He was planning on minglin, then getting close to the Crown without getting caught.
They'd decided to team up. Sven would get them in, Henry would get them out. That was the deal.
What Sven hadn't mentioned was how scarily good at this he was.
Henry felt out of place among the British high society. He felt like everyone knew he was a fake. Every time someone looked at him, he wanted to duck and hid, and every time someone spoke, he felt like they were going to raise the alarm on him.
Sven was the opposite. He moved with an easy grace that would make aristocrats jealous. He had a pleasant, easy smile and made small talk with the party goers as though he wasn't here to steal the Crown Jewels of England. It was like he'd been born and raised on the aristocratic court- he did better than some of the actual nobility.
Henry could do nothing but follow the younger Toppat's lead as Sven confidently made his way through the ball room. He was amazed at Sven's skill- he himself felt clumsy and awkward in comparison.
Henry's panic went up to the limit as he realized that Sven was taking him to the dance floor. I mena, he knew how to dance and had taken lessons before, but he was kind of self-conscious about it. The last thing we wanted to do was dance in a room full of aristocrats.
His anxiety abated somewhat as Sven took the lead, moving with that same easy grace Henry had noticed earlier. Again, he was struck with the impression that Sven had been doing this his entire life.
"You're good at this," Henry noted.
"I get by," Sven said modestly. "I'm not the best at this, not by far."
"No, really. It's honestly kind of scary how well you're doing," Henry said.
Sven's cheeks turned a light shade of pink at the compliment. "Thanks."
"Where did you learn all this?" Henry asked. "I'm a thief and I feel out of my depth here."
"Dad and pappa are very good at this type of thing," Sven said. "I picked up a few things."
"You have two dads?" Henry asked. That was the first he'd heard of it. The Toppats were and LGBTQ+ accepting group, but still. "Are they Toppats too?"
Sven shot him a funny glance, then looked around. "Oh, hey, look at that. We made it to the doors."
Why the change in subject? Henry wondered. But he didn't have any time to think about it as Sven opened the doors and walked through them.
With one last look at the ballroom behind them, Henry followed.
Sven was walking confidently through the hallway, making no attempt at hiding his presence. Henry quickly caught up to him.
"Hey, uh- is the subject of your dads an uncomfortable topic or something?" Henry asked tentatively. "Because you kind of changed the subject really quickly, and- uhm-"
"Hmm? No, why would you ask that?" Sven said. "We should just focus on the contest right now, that's all. I- seven stars!" He suddenly started sprinting, leaving a surprised Henry behind.
Henry looked at him, then noticed a familiar Toppat with fiery red hair at the end of the hall, opening the glass case that held the Crown Jewels in it.
"Oh, no you don't!" Henry muttered, then started running to stop Ellie.
He overtook Sven and started running faster as Ellie noticed them and held up the Crown Jewels, grinning triumphantly.
Henry almost made it and was about to catch Ellie when someone tackled him from behind.
~Time Skip 2~
"So how'd you guys do?" Burt asked as Sven and Henry walked into the room.
"Wright and Ellie won," Sven said with disappointment. "We were really close, too! Probably would've gotten second place if there was a thing."
"Ah, well, Wright and Reg always win, ya know," Burt said, leaning back in his chair. "'M surprised they didn't compete together this year. What's Henry looking so annoyed about?"
Henry grumbled under his breath as he held an ice pack to his head. Right had hit his head on the floor when he'd tackled Henry, and now Henry had a headache and maybe a minor concussion. Right hit hard.
"What was that, Hen?" Burt asked. "Didn't quite catch what you said."
"I had to wear a suit for nothing," Henry muttered.
