The chilly morning air surrounded her as she took her first steps upon the stone floor outside the Aslan's How. The whole camp was slowly waking up from their slumber, while the fauns and minotaurs that were keeping watch at night left inside for a much-needed sleep. Idalia wasn't the earliest riser, many Narnians were already training on the lower grounds. The sun hasn't yet come over the horizon making the grounds be covered in dew. She took a deep breath, taking in the fresh air and when she let it out she watched the white mist coming from her hot breath.
It was the peace that made her like the mornings so much. Her ears picked up faint voices as someone was having a conversation somewhere. Of course, she couldn't stop her curious mind and she looked around. Her head slowly turned up until she spotted the prince and his professor on the platform outside the How. Caspian looked graver than ever, as though he couldn't shut his eyes not even for a second.
Idalia's mind was in a trance when he looked at her. She quickly looked away, embarrassed to be caught. If it were not for the cold making her cheeks pink that definitely would. She looked back up at the platform and this time Caspian smiled at her. She returned the gesture and walked off to the training grounds. Edmund and Peter were having at it with swords and have been training for a while. Idalia rather sauntered off to the archery group that was overlooked by Susan.
The girls smiled at each other as Idalia joined her side and looked at other's attempts at hitting the centre of the target. ''Can you shoot?'' Susan turned to the dark-haired girl.
Idalia quickly shook her head. ''Not even to save my life.'' She smiled sheepishly.
Archery wasn't her thing, too much effort was needed to grab an arrow, load the bow, spot the target and then after releasing hoping you even shot in the right direction. All while the opponent could slash you with their sword three times already. Susan offered her the bow she was holding. Idalia looked hesitant, not wanting to embarrass herself. She already wanted to decline politely but Susan insisted. The dark-haired girl finally gripped the bow and then also an arrow from Susan.
Following the exact instructions Susan was saying out loud she tried as she saw many times do others. She was pointing an arrow to the target and pulled at the string with all her strength until she released and the arrow hit the tree behind the target. Lowering the bow she frowned and looked at the arrow. Her instincts were proven right but in the end, it didn't hurt to try.
Another arrow flew past them hitting the dead centre of the target. Idalia whipped her head around only then noticing Caspian was standing behind them with a crossbow in his hands. She was certain he saw her poor shot by the smug face he was wearing while looking at her.
''Well, it's easy when it's already loaded.'' Idalia let out a puff of protest as Caspian joined Susan and her.
He was wearing a playful smile as he loaded the crossbow again. ''Is it?'' His voice was teasing as he offered the crossbow to Idalia.
