malakai's pov

we started packing up our things and then we heard the door downstairs opening so i left my bag upstairs and walk down the stairs since michelle was still putting her stuff away and joey went to the bathroom. we actually had a really fun time and joey talked more to us so i feel like she's getting more comfortable around us.

when i reach the 1st floor i see tabitha (michelle's little sister) and michelle's mom. tabitha is already on theire white couch and i see her looking through movies on netflix. i look over to the kitchen and see lydia (michelle's mom) unpacking grocerys. i look over to see a movie already playing on the tv so i walk into the kitchen

"hi lydia" i say walking over to her and starting to help her unpack the grocerys

"hey honey, how's the project coming along?" ive only known michelle and her family for around three months but i already love them more then my actual family

"it's going pretty good we've finished almost half of it" i say as i putting away some vegetables in the fridge

"how was work?" i ask turning briefly to look at her

"pretty stressful. we have some pretty big clients coming for a meeting next week so it's a lot of preparation work and looking over all the documents" michelle's mother works at an investment firm and its doing pretty well. she's one of the main bosses so she always has a lot of work

"thank you for helping dear" she says them we finish putting everything away

just then michelle and joey walk downstairs

"hi mom" michelle says entering the kitchen and going in to hug her mom

"hi sweetheart" her mom responds lovingly

pulling away from the hug michelle turns to look at joey "mom this is joey she recently started going to our school"

"so you really do bring all the new ones home huh" her mom turns to look at michelle rising a eyebrow. mixhelle just rolls her eye while i laugh a bit

"hello mrs davis" joey says smiling at lydia

"oh sweetheart just call my lydia" she says while pulling joey into a hug startling the girl

i just turn to give el a look. her mom love physical contact i guess that's where el got it from

when michelle turns to talk to her mom about some personal issue i take joeys hand and i lead her to the living room. i turn to look at her and she shoot me a confused look but i ignore it. when we reach the living room i drop her arm and go over to the little girl sitting on the couch. too cut up in frozen 2, a movie shes watched hundreds of times, to have noticed me coming over

"hi princess" i say starting going behind the couch to hug her from behind

"KAI" she yells seeing me and practically jumping into my arms. after a while of her just hugging me i set her down

"tabitha this is joey, she goes to school with me and your big sister" i say glancing at joey who seems a bit awkward.

"hi joey you're really pretty" tabitha says looking up at joey with her brown eyes

"thank you so much but you're so beautiful too" joey says sitting down next to her on the couch. tabitha is sitting in between us. while we watch the movie tabitha had put on i can't help but curse at myself any time i look over to my right were the little girl is laying her head on joey's lap. they are the absolute cutest what the fuck.

after about ten minutes michelle comes from the kitchen with a can of a energy drink in her hand. she sees her little sister laying on joeys lap and i can see her mentally roll her eyes

"can you try to make it less obvious you already love her more then me" she sighs, causing joey to suddenly look up at her. i think she was about to fall asleep.

"i love you all equally tho" her little sister huffs

"yeah and you've known joey for like less then a hour and me for nine years" michelle rolls her eyes and sits down next to me

"mom's cooking dinner do you both want to stay?" she asks changing the subject. i look over at joey and we have a silent conversation with our eyes. in the few conversations we had while doing the project we found out we live like 5 minutes away from each other and we have a lot of things in common. i have a feeling we'll become really close.

"yeah i think we will and after we can just take a subway home" i say turning back to michelle.

"alright" she says and puts her head on my shoulder to rest for a bit

it's been about half an hour and after a while we turned of frozen and put on a better movie to play in the background. i feel like tabitha is still upset at us about it. michelle's dad called and said he'd be staying at work till midnight and told us to have lunch without him. so now me and michelle are helping her mom. michelle is making a salad while im setting up the table. joeys in the living room playing a board game with tabitha who seemed to already love the older girl.

i walk back into the kitchen when im done with the table

"honey how are you and joey going to get home? do you need me to drive you home?" lydia asks as she trys some of the salad michelle made to make sure it's good

"oh no its fine. we'll ride the subway. turns out joey and i live pretty close so we'll ride home together. thank you tho" i smile at her

"alright then let's go eat"

"this meal was wonderful mrs. davis" joey said, clearing her throat when she finished her plate

"thank you dear" the older woman said "but please call me lydia"

"oh sorry i forgot" she said

we finished cleaning off the table and washing the dishes. it's pretty late so i guess it's time for us to go

"im gonna go get my bag from upstairs" i tell joey when she takes out a hoodie from her bag to wear it

i run up the stairs and go into michelle's room and quickly grab my bag. i check if i have everything and when i see i do i start making my way downstairs.

"bye lydia thank you again for the food" i say hugging her

"of course dear"

then i hug michelle and tabitha and watch joey say bye to everyone. we walk out the door and start making our way to the subway
