As Marinette walks through the front door, her mother comes rushing towards her and she gives her a big, caring hug.
"I was so worried something had happened. Your father is walking around the block, searching for you and I stayed home in case you came here. We both saw the news, are you okay?"
It takes a lot of concentration for Marinette to proces what her mother just said and to think of a response. "What exactly did you see on the news that made you worry?" She knows there have been three akuma attacks, but for how far her mom knows, she wasn't involved in any of them.
"Oh sweety, I don't want you to freak out, but I was cleaning your room today and found a letter on the ground. I didn't want to read it, but I accidentally read a few words that made me realise something." What is it she's trying to say, what letter did she find, what did she read?!
"You're Ladybug, my sweet little girl is Paris' saviour." It feels like Marinette's heart stops beating, her mom can't figure it out, no one can know, she feels her breathing getting unsteady. This can't be happening, it can't!
"Calm down, I haven't told anyone, not even your dad. But I was worried when I saw you on the news today, it was hard to keep track on what was happening, but what happened to Chat Noir is all over the news and I'm so sorry."The tears Marinette tried to hold back to show everyone around her that she's okay suddenly starts coming down. "I couldn't save him mom, I was too weak. He's been taken away and it's my fault. I should've done something, but I failed and now he's gone and HawkMoth took him and-"
"It's okay, it's going to be okay, I'm here for you and if you want me to, I'll help you find him. You've come too far to give up now. I know it's hard but you have to stay strong for the sake of Paris. Your fight isn't over yet and you'll show HawkMoth that you're still standing strong."
Marinette never thought her mother would approve of her being Ladybug, yet here she is, encouraging her. "Thanks mom, I'll be up in my room." Marinette says, she has to talk to Tikki.
"My mom knows, she knows!" Marinette is freaking out, Tikki is trying to calm Marinette down.
"It's okay, really. Previous Ladybugs have had their identities revealed before, it's no big deal if one person who cares about you knows."
Marinette nods, "You're probably right, but I always thought that if anyone knew, it would've been Chat Noir." Thinking about him makes her eyes fill up with tears again.
"We'll get him back, I know we will." Tikki says encouraging. Marinette nods doubting. She decides she should go to bed. It's late, she's had a rough day and she's tired.
When she wakes up the next morning, she's still tired. She rubs her eyes and gets up to get to school, but falls back on her bed due to dizziness.
"Are you okay, Marinette?" Tikki asks concerned.
"I'm fine." Marinette lies, she doesn't feel fine at all. She thought a night sleep would make her feel better, but she feels worse than ever.
"You don't look fine. Lay down and I'll get your mom. Since she knows about you being Ladybug, she can know about me too." Tikki says, flying downstairs.
A few minutes later, her mom comes upstairs in her room with a cup of tea and a croissant. "How are you feeling?" She asks, sitting down next to Marinette and giving her the cup of tea to drink.
"I was just a little dizzy when I woke up, I'm totally fine now." Marinette says, trying to stand up again, but she immediately feels another dizzy spell and sits down.
"You're staying home today. Yesterday costed you way too much energy." Before Sabine leaves to call school, she kisses Marinette on her forehead and waves goodbye to Tikki "It was nice meeting you."
As the day goes on, Marinette starts feeling a bit better. The dizzy spells aren't gone, but she does get out of bed and takes a shower. After that, she walks downstairs to see her mom and dad work in the bakery.
"Hi sweetheart, I'm glad you're okay, I didn't wake you yesterday because you were already sleeping when I got home." Her dad says, giving her a big hug. Marinette simply smiles.
"Wanna play video games? It's a quiet day in the bakery."
"You bet." Marinette answers, she really needs the distraction. They play almost all day long, with small breaks when the bakery gets crowded. It takes Marinette's mind of things, it's nice, but once she's alone in her room again, she feels miserable, she wasted a whole day where she could've tried to find Chat Noir. She feels like the worst partner ever. So when Tikki asks her if she's feeling better, she answers with "I guess. My ankle doesn't hurt as badly and the dizzy spells are over. But I feel a lot worse, too. I have to find Chat Noir."
Little does she know that Adrien feels the exact same thing at that moment. He's been captured, he left Ladybug alone when she needed him most. He feels like he deserves to rot in that cell. He's without his lady, without his kwami and without a way to communicate with the outside world. He wonders if people miss him, if people miss Chat Noir or Adrien.
