tossing and turning on your bed, not a single blink of sleep evident on your face. you weren't feeling particularly well, your mind was filled with so many stressful thoughts that they were basically pouring from your eyes, ragging your breath and shaking your whole body.
moons had passed since you last felt like this- hopeless and scared. normally, you would ignore that voice in your head or find something to distract yourself with, but it seems like the chase has come to an end, and you have to face it one way or another.
finding enough strength, you reluctantly dialed your next-door neighbor, chanhee.
he was a sweet boy with a powerful voice and a playful personality. you would often walk at night together for hours, talking about anything and everything, yet you felt as if you knew nothing about him. just thinking about him preoccupied your mind; his gentle smile, his soft pink hair, his soft laugh and his beautiful eyes.
the phone rang a couple of times before you heard his groggy sassy voice, "oh, hello my night owl neighbor, anything i can do for you on this fine night?"
you tried to laugh at his humor, but ended up releasing a loud sob you wanted to suppress so badly. immediately, you heard shuffling from the other line, "hey, hey, hey," he panicked and turned on the light, his window beside yours lighting up slightly your own room. "it's okay, i'm here." you cried louder.
he was silent for a few seconds, before worriedly asking, "do you want me to come over?"
not able to do anything but hum in agreement and release another ugly sob, he reassured you before hanging up and climbing out of his window to your own, thanking the heavens for them being so close to each other so no possible risk was at hand.
he saw you trembling on your bed and slowly approached you. he sat on the edge and placed a reassuring hand on your arm. you suddenly sprung up and hugged him tight, burying your face on his neck. he hesitantly hugged you back with one arm around the waist while the other rhythmically petted you hair.
he shifted the positions a little so that he was cradling you, for your own comfort. he rocked you tenderly so soothe you, and even started to delicately sing a lullaby.
feeling light-headed, you exhaled on his nape, making him giggle for a second. his angelic voice didn't send you to another dimension, nor did it disappear your problems, but it did give you a sense of peace that you couldn't find anywhere else.
before you knew it, pleasant sunrays kissed your skin, though it didn't compare to the warmth that tightly enveloped your body. you looked up to see chanhee sleeping calmly in front of you. you smiled.
he managed to turn your darkest nights into peaceful mornings.
