A massive column of energy shot towards space and grew in intensity until it exploded outwards, evaporating the clouds. Light glared through the cockpit windows, then it faded, and the plane whipped past.

Steve stood, woozy. When his vision returned, he saw the inert cube. He took a step toward it when suddenly, the plane banked violently, its engines roaring. Steve raced for the controls and the forgotten cube tumbled across the flight deck.

And flew out a hole in the fuselage.

Steve climbed into the chair, the control stick steered automatically. Steve wrested it, trying to override the plane but it will not alter course. Steve stared at the monitor and the green map of manhattan.

Behind him, he heard clunks of footsteps, and he quickly turned to find someone standing at the end of the room. As he stared at them, tears formed in his blue eyes. "Daddy?" Alexandria asked as she choked up on her dry throat.

"Ale?" Steve asked before he got up and raced to her. He picked her up and held her in a tight hug. He walked back over to the chair and sat down as the two continued to hug. "What happened? What did they do?" Steve asked once Alexandria tore from his grip and sat on his lap.

"They...gave me..." Alexandria said softly.

"What? What is it?" Steve asked, scared for her answer.

"They gave me the serum. Like the one they gave you," Alexandria said, with her voice trembling. Steve closed his eyes before he held her again, with her body leaning against his chest, tears dripping down her face, not sure what was next.

The radio squawked in the empty control room. "Agent Carter, come in-"

Peggy ran in and grabbed the radio, frantic and relieved. "Steve, is that you? Are you okay?" Peggy asked.

"I'm fine. Peggy, Alexandria was on the plane. She's here. She's safe."

Peggy sighed in utter relief, knowing she was safe. They were both safe. "Where's Schmidt?" Peggy asked.

"Schmidt's dead," Steve said.

"What about the plane?" Peggy asked.

"That's a little bit harder to explain."

Steve stared at the New York map, radio in his hand, his other one holding Alexandria against him, as she just laid on his chest.

"Give me your coordinates. I'll find a landing site."

Steve looked down at Alexandria in sadness before he choked up on his words. "There isn't going to be a landing. Schmidt's locked the navigation system," Steve said as Alexandria tightened her eyes shut as tears fell from them. Steve eyed the relined engine gauges in front of him. "And there's more than enough power to reach the East Coat."

"I'll get Howard on the line. He'll know what to do."

"We're sitting on a hundred tons of explosives. Hotwiring this thing's not an option," Steve said before he looked out the window at the vast, blue expanse of ocean. "I've got to put her in the water."
