The quiet ocean floor. A pristine seascape beneath the waves. Far beneath. There is a sense of order, a feeling that everything is as it should be. But it's definitely not empty or void of colour. There is a sense of unbridled life force. Giant sunfish species float under, wiggly sea snakes writhe and slither along the floor and-

Oh.

What's this?

I can't quite make what it is- oh wait, hang on. It's drifting closer.

 It's drifting closer

And closer.

And . . . POP!

Oh.

A curious little creature, that is. Hello!

Suddenly, a voice from the heavens far above calls out.

"Welcome to existence, little mer."

This little creature looks up towards the big blue thing. He doesn't know really what it is yet.

The voice called out again:

"I am the god of the surface, Creator of this world and all life within it. And you are the Beacon, a light that shines for others."

It finally knew its purpose. But at this point, it had only existed for the better part of half a minute, so it knew but only just.

Despite not knowing what to do or exactly what to specifically solve, or how to solve it, or where to go or . . . anything really, the Beacon listened on:

"There are many prophecies in this world. You will have a key role to play in each one. My power will guide you. The world is waiting for you. Go to the prophecies and fulfill your destiny!"

Okay.

So there was now a vague idea of what to do. Go around. Make every creature happy. That's a weird life's purpose. He fiddled around with a little shell for a while that was close by. I'm sure the surface god would give some time to ponder over this and-

"GO FORTH!"

Okay . . . not exactly sure why the surface god is angry.

Anyways, off he went!

As he went about searching for a few days, there were tiny fish that were seemingly assigned to him, escorting him as his own confidants almost. He journeyed past, across and through a very interesting seascape.

There were giant sunfish just slowly floating about, with their sail-like fins and somewhat shiny skin.

There were large igneous rock formations, jutting out from the landscape in funny lumps, amongst the sedimentary rock formations marring the walls of underwater canyons and valleys.
