"So are you boys excited and ready for the assembly today," Ella asks Bryce and Scott, making sure to stick closer to Scott than Bryce, which Scott had noticed as soon as she met up with them so he moved between them, which she had given him a grateful smile for 

"yeah, its gonna be real big" Bryce says with a laugh "heaps of sponsors and everything coming down, I'm pretty sure it will end up on the news or some shit like that"

Ella nods her head and continues to look around for Montgomery but she still couldn't find him

they rounded the corner and noticed the birthday banner and streamers hanging from the top of the hallway and in front of them stood Alex, Zach and Jess

"Aww happy birthday buddy" Bryce says with a smirk and pats Alex on the shoulder antagonising "oh sweet banner" 

"is your mum bringing cupcakes later?" Scott asks with a grin but the grin disappears when he feels ella elbow him in the side and he looks down at her disappointed and disapproving expression which instantly makes his heart hurt and he shuts up 

"i hope she brings enough for the whole class" Bryce adds "maybe you will get a new cane this year too huh? and some new friends"

"Seriously bryce" ella scolds and rolls her eyes and then turns to Alex and pulls a small box out of her pocket and hands it to the boy with a soft smile "happy birthday alex, don't listen to these assholes" she says and sends a glare to scott and bryce 

"Chill El it was just a joke" Bryce says with a laugh

"yeah well jokes are meant to be funny and the only funny thing around here is your face" Ella mutters and begins to walk away and drags Scott and Bryce with her, but not before sending Alex and Jess a quick apologetic look and Zach a small smile 

"fuck you, you fucking rapist" Alex yells out, causing everyone in the hallways to stop talking and look over at them. Bryce, Scott and Ella all stop walking

Scott and Ella turn around and quickly shake their heads at Alex and then both of them send him an apologetic look and then go to leave with Bryce 

The cheerleaders and the baseball plays all stood on the court in the gymnasium doing the dance routine that they had been practising for the last few weeks 

"lets give it up for our varsity baseball team" Ella calls out with a grin as they finish the dance and Montgomery runs up to her and gives her a giant kiss on the cheek with a wide grin on his face and he lifts her up into his arms for a hug

"go sit down with the guys, bub" she ushers and he goes to sit down with the rest of the baseball team as Ella, the cheer captain stays up on the stands "and now for our emcee of today's assembly, Marcus Cole" Ella calls out and everyone begins to cheer as he runs out wearing a cheerleading outfit and begins to dance, causing everyone to laugh and cheer for him. Ella steps out of the way to let Marcus talk into the microphone, she grins as she makes eyecontact with Monty and he sends her a wink and mouths 'i love you' which she mouths back 

"that's right, i uhhh, dressed for the occasion" marcus says and the crowd begins to cheer for him again "whos impressed?"

The cheerleaders who were standing behind Marcus now quickly ran out of the way and towards the entrance and formed two lines as Marcus got ready to introduce the track team "lets introduce this years, varsity track team" and the track team came running out and ran between the two lines of cheerleaders who were shaking their pom-poms in the air
