Trying to find the best loan shark, was like trying to find the perfect wedding ring. Some you liked, but were put off of the price you had to pay back, some you thought were for you, but didn't turn out to be, some you just looked at and walked away instantly. All you wanted was to get your life back on track, easier said than done unfortunately. Strolling down the streets of Kamurocho, you only had once place left to investigate. Sky Finance. You had heard a lot about this place, they charged no interest apparently, but you did have to undergo a test that if you passed it, the money was all yours, but once again probably easier said than done.
Sky Finance was located just above New Serena, mildly popular bar, that seemed to have regulars in and out, not really any new people. You walked up the stairs at the back of the building to find yourself standing at the front door of Sky Finance. It was quite late, but it seemed to be still open. This was your last chance, today is was all or nothing. You knock on the door slightly, but there was no answer? Was the company closed? You turned the door handle and to your surprise it was open. You walked in to see an extremely messy office, papers all over the desk at the back, it's got to be at least 3 months work, it was piled up like a mountain. Beer cans and used cigarettes all over the table, as well as a man in a suit sleeping on the couch. He wasn't a homeless man, was he? He wasn't just camping in a office?
You walked up to him and tapped him on the shoulder.
"Excuse me sir?" You whispered quietly, loud enough for him to hear, but quite enough for him not to be too startled. But yet he continued to snore. You pushed him a little bit harder, but yet nothing.
You decided to wait, you sat on the other couch across from him and relaxed a little. You hadn't felt this relaxed ever since you lost your job, you had been couch surfing until your "friends" told you to get a life.
You had to admit you were tired of waiting, but the generosity in you told you just to let that man have his peace, and that there is always time. After all it has been months, a few more hours wouldn't hurt. You feel yourself slipping on a deep sleep, that was one other thing you didn't have enough of either. But whether this man was the Sky Finance guy or some bum, you felt comfortable enough to fall asleep anyway.
"Excuse me miss? Miss? MISS?" You woke up a man screaming in your face. Your eyes fly open, to see the man that was on the couch last night, to be almost leaning over you.
"Phew, you're awake. Didn't think I was going to be able to wake you up uh.. miss.." he said awkwardly. You rubbed your eyes, stretched and then sat on the couch properly. He got up and a cigarette out of the box and sat once again across from you.
"You know, this isn't a camp, I'm sorry love, but I can't have you sleeping here." He said whole lighting the end of the cigarette. You shifted uncomfortably, you had heard those words too many times.
"Um.. I'm sorry I was just waiting for the owner, because I wanted to talk about getting a loan, but I didn't know who you were and I didn't want to bother you, so I left you alone, and dozed off in the process.." you stuttered out. His face lit up, and he went looking at his cigarette right to you. Then he immediately took the cigarette out of his mouth and placed into the ash tray, and started to clean up in a hurry, attempting to make himself and his office presentable. You slightly giggled as he looked at you and smiled."Uh. Sorry.. I" he tried to find the right words to explain. But there was no need.
"There's no need. It's okay." You smiled. He rubbed the back of his neck, and got to business.
"So you said you wanted a loan? You see I can't really at the moment, maybe in a few hours? My secretary.. or whatever isn't here at the moment. She.. runs all of this, keeps me in line you know. But out of interest, how much do you want? Name your price." He said smiling at you. You looked down. You actually weren't sure. You just wanted to be on your feet again, happy, have a roof over your head, something like that. You struggled to get the words out.
"Idontknowijustwanttohaveenoughtosupportmyself." You mumbled out. He was confused and asked once again, softer this time what you had said. There must be something magical about his voice as you got the words out this time.
"I don't know, I just want to have enough to support myself." You said as you looked down at your feet too see the broken shoes currently on your feet. The man look surprisingly at you.
"I see. You're homeless right? How did it happen?" He asked quietly out of curiosity.
This was a touchy subject, but you were desperate, and you needed this money, you needed a life.
"I was accused of having money put into my account. And I don't mean.. a small amount I mean.. 100 million..." you looked up at him to see his jaw wide open. He wasn't sure what to say.
"100 million?!" He eventually got out. You looked at him with nothing else to say.
"You know. I was there once." He said quietly. Your head shot up as he nodded and smiled. He continued to tell the story of how he ended up homeless after he got fired from a job at the bank, but the money raining down from the sky, was what helped him rebuild. You smiled and was extremely shocked about how far he had come. In a lot of cases homelessness can mean the end, but it just goes to show, that there is always a bit of luck in everything, just patience and the right timing, you could be on your feet once again.
"Wow.. I didn't know.. that. I'm sorry" you smiled as you looked at him. He smiled too, right back at you.
"It's in the past now. So.. how about 100 million? I'll make a special deal with you. This isn't a small amount of money I hope you know that. So my test isn't going to be easy. Let me think it over, and come back tomorrow? I'll have something in mind for you then." He said as looked at you, and stood up. You stood up too as you walked over to him.
"Thank you...?"
"Akiyama" he finished your sentence as he chuckled. He shook your hand softly.
"It's good doing business with you... ?"
