Hwa Jooyoung ( Korean: 화주영, born June 11th 1997 ) better known by his stage name Hwasung, is a Korean-Ainu singer, rapper, and producer currently signed under the black label. he made his debut on march 23rd, 2015 at the age of 17 with his EP "loveholic".

2010-2015: trainee days and debut
Hwasung was street cast at his home in imjado and became a trainee at around the same time as winner's jinu, the two trained together often and Hwasung even helped to write the track " don't flirt " on his group's debut album.
Hwasung made his own debut in 2015 with the title track " loveholic ", many people did not like his debut due to the "overly cute" nature of it. Hwasung himself admits he was not a fan of his debut but he dealt with it and as he said in an interview with elle "i was young so they thought a cuter concept would suit me, however i'm happy to have switched over to the black label as they gave me more creative freedom, which you can see in my latest comeback ( who, you? ). "
2016-2017 change and success
Hwasung started experimenting with his sound in 2016, releasing several different albums with many different sounds and even trying out a softer city pop concept. His albums were all either a hit or miss and Hwasung found it difficult to find a balance between what he wanted to make and what his fans wanted from him, in the end, he ended up releasing a mixtape in 2017 that completely changed his sound, it was his first time rapping in a song and the public had very mixed opinions about it. Hwasung ended up releasing another mixtape that same year and it did really well, causing Hwasung to do more songs with him rapping.
2017-2020: Produce 101, Japan, and America
Hwasung was a mentor on Produce 101 season 2, Produce 48, Produce 101 Japan, and it is rumoured that in 2021 he will also be mentoring on Produce 101 Japan season 2. Hwasung was said to be an intimidating mentor and would often scare the trainees when he talked after being silent for a long time and with the harsh criticism he would give.
in 2018 Hwasung made his Japanese debut with " one of those nights ", the song did fairly well but wasn't a huge hit in Japan. In 2019 Hwasung made his American debut with " I'm not sorry ", which did well in the hip-hop/r&b scene.
