Preventing people from being able to see what you're doing is sometimes necessary, such as when Hermione cast it on the portrait of Phineas Nigellus Black to prevent him from seeing her, Ron and Harry in the forest of Dean. Blindfolds can also be for the benefit of the wearer too, to cover their eyes if you accidentally point your Lumos-charmed wand directly at them, or if you have a suprise for them at their birthday.
Particularly good for... when you have a suprise for a friend.
