                                                               Poem

'The man was blind but he read my mind'

It was the beauty of the sunset

Which he continuously stared at

He listened to the sound of the waves of the sea,

He stared at it, as if he could see

I walked up to the old man, gawking, which I never should

He didn’t feel my presence or maybe he never could

Without knowing why, I sat next to him

His expressions changed, now serious and grim

“Does my presence bother you?” I ask.

His lips twitched into a smile, as he wore a new mask.

“You’re a young child but your intentions are pure,

But you are confused of that I am sure”

“How did you know? Do you read minds?”

“That is what I do, I hope you don’t mind.”

I narrowed my eyes and frowned at him,

Maybe I was wrong, I did misjudge him.

“I may be blind

But

I can read your mind”

I turned to the sunset, which was a work of art,

His words had shocked me and torn my heart apart.

He was silent again but his sorrows screamed,

It was way too obvious whenever he beamed.

He stared ahead into space as if talking to the air,

I wanted to ask him the reason he’s here.

Suddenly, He turned to me

Staring as if he could see through me

A gasp escaped my lips, I wanted to flee

“Don’t be afraid” He said, “Talk to me.”

I was tongue tied and didn’t reply

Scared to death, I won’t deny

“You have learned a lot, from life and pain.”

“You desire something.” He spoke again.

I wanted to block him so stopped thinking,

And kept looking at him, without blinking.

“Open your mind like a book for me, Child,

And let me explore nature more closely.”
