Broken Friendships

We sat in the balcony, watching the humans below us. The wind, the evening sun, the clouds, it was perfect. Things should always be like this. I looked over to him, he looked occupied. I had to ask, he was my best friend, he shouldn't have to be so bothered I laid my hand on his shoulder, I smiled. He looked right into my eyes.
"what's the problem?" I asked
He mumbled something, looking down. I pushed my face against his and asked for it again.
    Crap.
Things should stay this way forever, we should be happy. We should have ice cream on balconies. Why did he have to say that.
My hand slid off his shoulder, he stood up and started leaving
"no- I!" I called after, I didn't expect to even finish that, but he stopped. I had nothing else planned to say
"you what?" he asked
"i-"
"I thought so" he laughed
He laughed like he didn't just ruin my-
I'm so selfish, he's laughing like I didn't just break him apart
"why" he asked, the wind stopped. I noticed a lot more than I could in that moment
"w-what?" I felt everything crumble, nothing would ever be the same again
"why" it sounded like he was crying, but he wasn't. He just made the voice "why did you lead me on for so long?"
What?
"what do you mean?"
he turned back, a completely normal face and a smile. Like he wasn't completely broken
He pulled back his seat and sat in it
"I wasn't talking before y'know" he smiled. Then proceeded to point at someone below us. His chair was a full inch away from mine, probably a mistake. I had made all our friends occupied.
I'm so selfish
