Eddie watches as Buck realizes what they're going to have to do. The younger man is delirious with pain as he begs. "No! Eddie, wait, please!" His voice is borderline hysterical and Eddie feels something shift deep in his stomach. He's still holding the blade over the fire when he looks at Hen. Her eyes say it all. You have to do this. Eddie feels like his hands have gone numb by the time he pulls the knife out of the campfire while Chim assures him that it was hot enough now from his position where he's holding Buck's legs down. And Buck is pleading and begging with him to not do this. Eddie knows he has to do this, and that Buck can't make sense of the situation in this state. But all those reassurances mean nothing when the blonde is looking at him like - that. Eddie was in Afghanistan and he actually had to cauterize a friend's bullet wound before, but this- this is different. This is Buck. All the same he knows what he needs to do. ********************************************** Bobby plans a team bonding camping trip when a new recruit leaves the 118 riddled with arguments. They are both intently staring at the lights changing from one number to the next. Then the elevator comes to a halt and Buck assumes he'll soon be alone. But instead of pushing away from the wall, the other man is just furrowing his brows. Then Buck realizes the door isn't opening. His eyes flit back to the current story: Four. That's not where any of them wanted to get off. Buck groans. "I think we're stuck." Buck laughs a humorless laugh. "Shit." <hr> Buck gets stuck in his apartment building's broken elevator with his good-looking neighbor from the sixth floor.

Eddie is late to a holiday gathering of the fire fam. He goes through the motions.

The realization hit him with the force of a tidal wave, yet it also felt incredibly obvious, like a truth he'd been unknowingly carrying for years, finally bubbling to the surface. He was... he was in love with Eddie.

"When do I get to be happy, Eddie? When do I get to have what I want? Where do I find this person?" Buck almost sobs. Eddie is so fucking done holding back; he's done watching Buck be mistreated; he's done hiding who he is; he's done hiding how he feels; he's so fucking beyond done with not having Buck where he belongs. Eddie makes his choice; it's time. "Maybe they are closer than you think, Buck," Eddie whispers into Buck's ear. Buck stiffens, and Eddie doesn't panic. He waits it out. Buck takes a deep breath and tightens his hold around Eddie's ribs. Buck leans back and looks into Eddie's eyes. Eddie reaches up and wipes the tear away from under Buck's eye. He slides his hand down to cup Buck's jaw. "Can I?" Eddie asks, and Buck gives him a very firm nod of approval. Eddie pushes up on the balls of his feet and softly presses his lips to Buck's.
