Salem Allen Scott is an outcast of sorts. Unable to live a life of her own, she is forever being tossed between the ones that find her useful or those who wish to be worshipped. There's favors to hand out and gifts to give, none of which are extended to her. Her card is in the hands of everyone in her life, and she is continuously dealt into play. It's been bearable for the past seventeen years, but as her high school graduation comes and goes, she begins to wonder if this will always be her life: if she'll always draw the attention of people who only see her as something to use. We find Salem at summer's end, a month or so into eighteen, and hoping that her college years bring her some type of peace. Hopefully, she will finally become the one thing she's never been in her entire life, extraordinary.
