From the book: Dragons at war...
The rest was a confusion of impressions. The dust lit up with a blazing reddish-yellow glow followed by a monstrous roar. A wave of heat swept over them. They continued to ride for a few moments, but they encountered a drift of overthrown horses and riders. Captain Baffen signaled a halt. Once the drumbeat of their horses hooves were silent, he heard a cacophony of shrieks and screams from all around. Another great gout of fire swept towards them, and the roar drowned out the heart-rending cries for help. This time they saw the fire as it swept towards them. They were in a shallow depression below the level of the rest of the plain, and the searing heat from the inferno swept just over their heads like a beacon from left to right. They started forward again, but a great wind followed the fire. It swept the dust away as they came onto level ground. That was when they saw the dragon.

The world had long since forgotten the age of dragons, those creatures that had once ruled the skies as gods had long since disappeared after the conclusion of the Great Demon Wars. Dragons became nothing more than a fading legend, a story to tell children at bedtime. But the gods could not let the dragons die, for they were the last defense against the demon armies and the dark god Vekkar. Talia had been born and raised in a world of darkness acting as an agent of Hephatus, goddess of assassins and death. She knew only a life of killing, sometimes for justice, sometimes for honor, always for money. Her morals were opaque at best. But when she's deployed to the city of Arboros she finds herself thrust into a world of political games, opposing powers, and constant threat. Nowhere was safe even for her. Her goals became muddied, and then lost altogether when she meets the Dwarven Prince. Bromyr had spent the last five years of his life chasing ghosts, desperate to find the lost dragon eggs. His people thought him crazy, his father stripped him of his titles, but he never gave up. Eventually his effort bore fruit and he hastily made way to return to his homeland only to get caught up in the city of Arboros. It was there that he met an intriguing half-giant, a woman who ignited a fire everywhere she went. In the end she was the one who inadvertently brought about the new age of dragons. What could go wrong when an ill tempered assassin becomes the first dragon rider of a new age? ***Cover made by annie1loves1you***
Sabbanath - Book 1 of The Elements of Destiny by RebelRed73
17 parts Complete
A tale of a New world with new opportunities for those brave enough to venture forth. A tale of a world with a long forgotten history but with a destiny that must yet be fulfilled. Share in the epic travels of Val and Thomas as they explore new lands and cities and interact with a myriad of diverse and interesting characters who inhabit this New World and watch as their destinies inexorably become entwined with that of the land they have been sent to explore. An excerpt from "Sabbanath" The sun was hot those three days. It rose in a clear sky in the morning and except for a few blessed times when a lost cloud shielded them briefly from its rays, it set in a clear sky. Sure, temperatures in Brehin, the capital city of Kiryn where he had been living prior to this expedition, got as high but Thomas didn't usually spend so much time outside in the sun. The introspective mood that had settled on the camp when they had left the temple and the encounter with the Giant Worm had stayed with them for the duration of the journey. The landscape of open grassland was singular and repetitive and it gave you a sense of waiting, of waiting to pass through it until you got to where you were going. In such an atmosphere, no one was in the mood to start a conversation. Talking was reserved for situations that necessitated it. Everyone rode with their eyes fixed on the horizon. The one thing of note was that Dawson was back in his saddle. He refused to stay in the stretcher beyond the first day and said that any discomfort in the saddle would be nothing compared to being bounced along behind a flatulating horse. That had brought a smile to even the captain.

Wonderful tales about adventures and battles against the Empire of Gallamine... But this was not one of those heroic times. The messenger was a soldier of the King, bearing a Blue cloak with a Gold insignia of the King, The Mighty Blue Dragon, on his hands. Allen's mother covered her face with grief and ran inside the house. Allen wanted to cry, but he kept a brave face. His lower lip wouldn't stop trembling. As he extended his hands for the cloak, the messenger unveiled his hoodie and underneath was his Uncle Waller with tears and red nose. Allen ran and hugged him. Not letting him go, thinking he too would suddenly disappear. "Allen... Please take this inside." Said Waller, "I will come back when we have done the ceremony for his burial." Waller kneeled down with his arms extended, offering Allen his fathers cloak. "But... Uncle Waller. What-" I started crying, but kept a brave face. "I understand Uncle *Sniff* I will be brave for the family and Mom." I took the cloak from his hands, and something clicked inside my head. A voice came through to my head, more a whisper than a normal voice. Uncle Waller stood up and walked away. I embraced the cloak, my tears falling on it, as I remembered my fathers scent. "I don't know what happened... But I promise you this Father, I will find the person who did this to you, and make it pay for taking you away from our family". I swore with anger burning in my heart. "I must grow strong, just like Father, Uncle and Grandpa... I will become The strongest Warrior there ever was, you will see Father..." I walked back inside the house. "Allen... You have promise..." Said the whisper, "I will help you grow strong, and get Revenge..." Said the voice with sadness, "You are a very special Kid".

"Let them go, Dante." I whip my head to see a small boy standing the clearing with blonde hair and a green cloak hanging from shoulders. He isn't very tall however he holds his stance well. He doesn't seem to be more than Cassandra's age. Maybe 12 at most. I abruptly turn my head back hearing the man holding a sword to my throat chuckling with a sinister grin. "Oh, poor boy, what are you go to do about it?" The yellow teeth gleam as he begins stalking towards the boy who does not look the least bit fazed. I look around at the other men who are following the leader. I pull Cassandra tighter to my back as I take small steps back. I keep my eye trained on the men but also fear for the naive boy. "Do you really want to test me Dante?" He asks raising a single eyebrow. For a minute the men stop their movements. I see their hesitation for fear... Fear of what? I take the moment to stick Cassandra behind a nearby tree. She crouches down while I pull my sword out from its place. "How do you know my name?" The scoundrel raises his sword challenging towards the boy before taking a final step towards him. Then the unexpected happens. The young boy chuckles so darkly. It sounded almost... demonic. All the men instinctively raise their swords. "Oh Dante, I didn't know your name... but you know someone dear to me." "Spit it out boy!" The once grinning man is now looking around frantically. I continue my eyes scanning the small boy. He looks directly me and gives me a small nod before saying one word that caused all hell to breaks loose. "Artemis." Artemis is not an ordinary girl. She grew up in the wilderness after being shunned due to unique abilities and her different physical attributes. Blessed with an ability that scared others, she roams the wild with only her guarded one. That is until she stumbles into a situation that brings her in front of a prince.

Until she saw a little girl, no older than seven, sitting in front of a burning building, crying.
