The weight and warmth of the small child made the hair on my neck-my body- stand tall. How could this baby be so human-like, so unmonster-like? Her hand flew up as if to block something only it could sense. Iris's warning cry echoed in the packed hall, as an arrow shattered the small round window high on the wall. I could only cover the child fast enough that most of the shards persed my back and side. The deafening thud came next, everyone was silent as Jed fell into his lover's arms. Chaos followed. Everyone was yelling but the monster baby sat still, watching the flames. Pink, then blue, then back to the normal orange. The small child had only one glass piece on her temple, her black blood, staining everything but her skin, dripped slowly. Insteading of crying as most would have, she laughed.
