In 1845, two ships of the Royal Navy, the HMS Terror and the HMS Erebus, led by Sir John Franklin, attempted to sail through the Arctic Circle looking for the Northwest Passage. The ships would become trapped in the Arctic ice for several years. Endlessly cold, with diminishing rations, 126 men fight to survive with poisonous food, a dwindling supply of coal, and ships buckling in the grip of crushing ice. But their real enemy is far more terrifying than any of these; an ancient danger lurks in the frigid darkness, shrouded in mystery and somehow linked to one silent woman. This is the fictionalized account of an actual expedition that took place nearly 200 years ago, in the cold icy expanse of Inuit Waters
