He clipped the gear to his own harness and then slowly reached back, his rough thumb grazing her lower lip as he gently wiped the chalk smear from her cheek. She stared at him as he did it, her hand still resting on his abdomen, her skin burning under his touch, His adams apple bobbed in a hard swallow as he stared back, saying nothing. It was as though, if they just moved slowly enough, were just quiet enough, then they wouldn't do anything they'd regret, wouldn't do anything to hurt those that they lived with.
