EXCERPT.
"Open it." She said.
I walked in front of her and opened the door. She slowly stepped out and inhaled the cool breeze while closing her eyes. She opened them up again and looked up at the blue sky laughing out loud. She quickly ran down the stairs and towards the lawn. She jumped up as if attempting to touch the sky, spun around and fell to the ground laughing.
I stood frozen in place as I watched her play, laugh, and pick at the grass. That moment, had been forever engraved in my mind and I knew no matter how hard I tried, I could never forget it.
She finally stood up and ran towards me smiling.
"Alex, please, I beg you, don't make me go to the mall, why waste this wonderful weather staring at never-ending racks of clothing. Take me to the park or the zoo, or a cafe, anywhere but the mall."
She looked at me with eyes that shined with so much faith and hope it hurt. I couldn't say no even if I wanted to.
"Ok, we'll go to the park, just let me get the car. "
She quickly grabbed my arm and shouted no.
"Please, let's walk, I've been in a confined space far too long."
I nodded my head and led the way to the park.
I pulled out my phone to call him and let him know about the change in location. But as I looked to my right, and saw her glowing face, I turned off the phone and placed it back in my pocket.
