"I have no doubt we will," she said with confidence and a matching attitude, thanking him as she walked inside — like a red carpet was waiting for her! ...Obviously it wasn't the case. She turned around and looked at him, quirking an eyebrow at him. "This... isn't really what I was expecting. Was it supposed to be *this* full of baddies?!"

laughing at her gesturing, he supposed he could handle it if they were both in it together. "yeah, yeah, you look great! maybe we will kill it." with a newfound dedication (he would've gotten there eventually either way) he gestured for her to enter first even if he wouldn't be too far behind.

"You look perfect, trust me — you just won't draw all the attention to yourself, because hello!" she gestured towards herself with a playful, but wide smile. "This dress is a killer. We're gonna be the most well-dressed in this party! Let's go stop some bad guys and do it with style, Hawkeye!"

I wasn't— it's not as weird as it looks. I don't get stuck on trees a lot. Or... ever, really. I can wait upside down for a few more hours if you're busy.. Really!!

The contemplative look in his eyes was met with a respectful silence on her part. She just watched him, a warm smile on her face, patiently waiting for him to 'come back' after he apparently zoned out.
It was only when his gaze stopped following the steam rising up from his cup of coffee and turned to meet her eyes that she spoke to him again: "Is everything okay?" she asked with a small, but kind smile. If he was facing any troubles, other than getting stuck upside down on a tree for god knows how long, she would always be willing to help. It was the Hawkeyes code, after all!
Listening to his response, she would find herself chuckling — while nodding vehemently. "Indeed! It's totally worth it. Besides, who knows, we may run into each other again someday. That would be cool!"

He appreciated the simplicity of it— so it was an easy point of agreement to share between them. Everything else was so complex- he had no choice but to find a way to complete his life. How could one just... find the answer to it all? He worried about his mortality. Whether he would find anything, whether his life would stay miserable, how much longer he'd be there. Was making friends dangerous? What if he would have to watch them die? Every thought crossed his mind as he stared at his coffee, watching the steam rise and disappear. Was that what life was like? Something that lifted until it was gone? Something that was so incredibly finite? He should have just accepted that, he considered, sending her an affirmative smile with an easy brush off of the worries in his head. Maybe he just needed to warm up a bit. He hadn't realised how cold he was. "Yeah!! I like all of it. Both of it. Them. It's warm. I might have to come to this place more often now I know it's here!"

Her life was... hectic. To say the very least. But, yeah — never had she spoken to a dead person, at least, not one who looked so alive! Ghosts, vampires, zombies, they all were... well, part of a superhero's *reality*. It shouldn't truly shock her, but considering how episodes like that were still somewhat rare, she couldn't help it! Imagine learning your new friend (yes, she was quick like that to jump from strangers to friends! At least, when there was an immediate connection like they seemed to have shared) is a zombie of sorts? She could've never seen that coming! Not with the way he spoke, the light in his eyes and his smile, the warmth of his personality, his *energy*... everything about him (that she got to see, for the short time she knew him) was so contagious! How could he --? You know, she would have some hard time trying to wrap her head around it all. "Don't mention it — but yeah, I am! It has this atmosphere of simplicity, you know? I think that's why I like it. Plus, it's close by, so..." she chuckled, taking a sip of her coffee, enjoying its warmth. "You like it? The place, I mean? Though that could go for the coffee too!"

"It isn't something to worry about, though. I'm good! I just figured out I need to *exhaust* myself, mentally, before I go to sleep. Sometimes reading helps, trying to picture every little detail described in the book. Sometimes trying to solve puzzles do the trick — Clint's brother visited him the other day and forgot some crosswords there. I asked Clint if I could keep it, he just waved a hand dismissively, which I took for a 'yes'. It was interesting! I learned a couple of new words as a bonus!"

The crazy part is, that even if she went around with her topic hopping, the archer knew all the 'tabs' she opened in this metaphorical 'browser', to the point she would somehow find a way to return to the first topic — if she didn't get far too carried away, to the point she forgot some in the way. It isn't intentional, she swears! But her mind worked too fast even for her to keep up sometimes.
She much admired his capacity of developing a topic linearly, though, with a beginning, a middle and an end... or even just his personal conclusion, for not all topics truly had an end, right? It would take her a huge effort to stay focused, though. She had a lot going on simultaneously in her head, so it was admittedly harder to get things filtered and organized properly. The same was true for her whole life! She wasn't proud of the chaos, but she didn't know any other way.

And not to say she was completely incapable of linking the topics, because that issue itself was the main reason why she had trouble sleeping. Lights out, eyes closed, a comfortable bed or couch... and as soon as her head hit the pillow, it all starts: ideas for her cases, things she could've done or said differently. Sometimes not even about the current case or situation, sometimes it was all from years ago! And it would all still come back to her when she lied down to sleep.
"I guess I just... I can't really turn off my head, honestly," she responded, this time with the sincerity that lacked the first response.

It wasn't that he minded her so-called topic hopping (if anything, it was rather endearing when he'd figured out how to keep up) but he himself was more formulaic. He had a topic, wanted to be able to work through it properly- perhaps estimate what the other person would say so he could make sense of it before it even happened. There would always be exceptions. Like that very moment, when her eyes looked tired and he couldn't help but wonder, seeing as he knew her sleeping habits weren't exactly functional anyway.

"Oh, right." Jack's tone made it obvious that he didn't believe her, only because the fact that she almost said her answer like it was a question made it pretty unbelievable. And, besides, she was never going to be outright about it. It wasn't like he asked the question and expected her to open her heart to every single thought she's ever had about it. He paused for a moment, not entirely sure that his knowledge on the topic would suffice.

"D'ya know what it is that makes it harder t'sleep?" He questioned idly. Perhaps he was lucky in that his issues with sleep were routed in something else, maybe it was different if it was general insomnia. But Jack had no idea- maybe the insomnia was paired with something she was worried about, or it was stress. He could come up with all the hypotheticals but, not being an excellent person when it came to talking about stuff like that, it was only ever conspiracies until he asked. His boss told him that being blunt about things might actually be a benefit. Jack's eyes were watching her as she drove, and wouldn't take it personally if she told him to back off. He would, however, probably just approach the topic at a later date.
