Hiya! I’m posting a new chapter of Carnival of Light tomorrow. It’s called “Mrs McCartney” and picks up where we left off at Paul & Beatrix’s town hall wedding after they return from India…

See you in a bit ;)

Hi pals, I’m going to start updating Carnival of Light again next Sunday. I suggest a re-read of the last two chapters to remind yourself of where we are!

Hope some of you are still around to read ❤️

Hi, I just want to say that Carnival of Light is by far the best story I’ve ever read on this site, it’s incredible! How do you bring 60s London to life the way you do!? Are there any books etc. you use?

All-The-Letters

@chxmpxgneprxblxns hi! Ah, that is VERY high praise, thank you ❤️ Barry Miles memoir started me off, all manner of biographies fleshed it out, the Sweet Jane blog for fashion, plus a dash of my own imagining of what the mood would have been like.

Hey pals, a few of you have reached out to make sure I’m alive (lol) and yes, I am, albeit with imminent major IRL changes happening. That means Carnival of Light is on hold for the moment, but one day I hope to resume Sunday updates to see this book through to the end.

To prove it, here’s a preview of the next chapter, “Mrs McCartney”

          April 1968

The morning's nausea had subsided into a more manageable lethargy by the time Paul and I agreed to love each other until death parted us and signed our names in the registrar’s book. I signed a second document legally changing my name to Beatrix McCartney, and it was only then that I felt a poignant sense of sea change taking place.

I set the pen down and looked up at Paul, at his pretty eyes and inky black lashes, his straight nose and soft, smiling mouth. He caught me looking and winked. I smiled too.

“Let’s go feed the vultures,” he suggested, taking my hand.

We emerged onto the registry office steps into a shower of white wedding confetti and flashing camera bulbs, the deafening cacophony of wailing girls making my ears ring. I expected to be rushed into the car as I’d been rushed from one place to the next whenever we were faced with this kind of madness before. Instead, Paul put his arm around me and kissed me, making the wailing girls scream louder as the reporters whistled their approval.

Paul answered the press’s questions about our surprise wedding and I plastered on a gracious smile as I agreed that yes, I was very happy and so very lucky to be married to Paul, and to my great surprise, I meant it.

Then the press conference was over and we were in the car again, picking confetti out of our hair as we made our way to the wedding breakfast Poppy had organised at Claridges….

          ***

Is there anything in Beatles-lore from 1968 you’re dying to see Beatrix watch Paul experience?

Hope you’ll be here to read when I’m back.

See you in a bit xx

@All-The-Letters I'll have a think about 1968 events but anything you write is amazing. Your avant garde London is fab.

The bloke building bookshelves for my sitting room is whistling Jealous Guy/Child of Nature while he works. Should probably try to find time to write today…

Could be a sign… buuut don’t force it. You don’t need to force yourself, we can wait and waiting will only make it that much sweeter. Remember to take care of yourself
