It is commonly known that Harry potters boggart is a dementor and his fear is fear itself, but I think that’s wrong.
Harry most likely fears the sound of his mother’s screams, and the dementor is the creature that brings back those screams, which make him feel weak and black out. Therefore the boggart shows up as a dementor because it is the symbol that Harry registers with hearing his mom’s scream.

@Blue_foods4life Wait hold on. It was confirmed that Harry's worse fear was Voldemort. But he didn't want to bring the Dark Lord into the classroom--that would be trouble. So, he willed his fear to be Dementors instead, that way, even though he was defenceless, it wouldn't be as big of a danger to his classmates. But then again, you may be correct.
