I'm an Afropunk author, hope that pans out as a thing some day. Sometimes, the writing is so repugnant it crawls my own skin. But, like any genre fiction aspirant, one little breath at a time, we live as wild cards, so that at our twilights, we look back and say, we tried, we tried to live a thousand lives glowering through the eyes of the characters we created; we tried to let pages turn to crackling fires; but above all, we tried to dodge being the next-door shadows in the cascades of history, by chasing the extraordinary through the art of writing
