To anyone who's read Shadow Beings: Would you consider Audrey's continuous guilt and responsible feelings a 'good' trait or a flaw?

HelynaL

@GardenOfProserpine I guess I meant it in a sense that it's negative to experience. Of course, sometimes guilt is because you really did something "wrong" or hurt someone and in that case, you know. It's at least reasonable to feel. I suppose some feelings are just too complicated to categorize in 'good' and 'bad' groups :)

@HelynaL Ah thank you, that's very helpful! That is pretty much exactly what I was thinking, too, but I wanted to know the reader's perspective :)

(Prior to this I didn't realise that guilt was categorised as a negative feeling... wow.)

@GardenOfProserpine For me it's sort of obvious that it's both. While guilt is a negative feeling, she always strives to do better because she cares and feels responsible, and that is good. And occasionally, it causes her emotional turmoil, which might mean that it's also a flaw, since her look on things is not always unbiased (takes too much on herself).

Ahh I've just got to say this: Linkin Park is amazing. Their albums aren't just a bunch of songs, they're stories and frankly something greater than music. If you all ever get time I highly suggest listening to their album in the order they've put on YouTube, especially A Thousand Suns and One More Light (although I don't have a favourite album, it's impossible to choose).

Such beautiful sounds, full of thoughts and emotions. They're one of a kind and their evolving style is amazing to see.

GardenOfProserpine

@HelynaL Until It's Gone is powerful, ahh. I love... much all the songs in the album, it's so hard to choose one. A Line in the Sand though.

Mike's rap is the only rap I listen to, haha.

@GardenOfProserpine Haha, The Hunting Party, that's a strange record, I love it, Wastelands and Until It's Gone, whoa. Fort Minor is great, that's like the first rap album I've ever listened to, Mike is so good! I need to re-listen it, now that I know more English, tbh (although I did look up the lyrics, it's different when you actually understand it haha)! Yes, those are so powerful concepts, it's very painful and it can really get to you, uffh

@HelynaL The first album I hear was Living Things (Castle of Glass, to be specific) and then I started exploring their old albums and ahh, such different and unique music with very profound lyrics. ATS and M2M impacted me a lot too, but I like Hybrid Theory and Meteora too, as rock. Somehow I missed The Hunting Party so I actually listened to One More Light before it, haha.

I have a pretty random taste in music, and I really love music! It’s just so great ahhh.

A Thousand Suns though. Have you heard ‘Kenji’ from Fort Minor? It is about Mike’s family, how they were in the internment camp. That with ATS ( since it’s about Nuclear war and WW11 is referenced) is so powerful.

To those of you who don't listen to Classical Music, you really really should try it! I know this is random but I'm just gonna post a bunch of pieces here because why not? Hehe. I think they may be a good introduction for beginners: (in no particular order)

          --> Estampes: I. Pagodes. (Debussy): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZ4OhIAEy_w [It's just ahhh, you're in a different world]

-> J.S. Bach: Partita for Violin Solo No. 1 in B Minor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEBX_ouEw1I [A classic

-> Mendelssohn: Piano Concerto No. 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrvPf4yiEuA (I especially love the second and third movement) [Can't really sum it in words. Each movement is unique but the blend so well ahh]

          -> Chopin Etude Op, 25 No. 5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lzr0jlRzg2A
          AND No. 11: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ee_TCQDrrIU

-> Liszt: La Campanella: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIxGUAnj46U [Somewhat playful and yet light. Being in the higher octaves gives it somewhat of an ethereal feel to, for me]

-> Liebeslied: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnW_Nhpt7no [Soft and rather emotional, ahh]

-> Haydn: Piano Sonata in C Major: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qItXv7NdfW8 [Classic!]

Many of the pieces here are famous, but I didn't want to put overplayed. I wanted to put in Beethoven and Schubert somewhere too but it didn't seem to fit. Concertos are pretty long so once you get into classical music you have to check them out, hehe.

Also to anyone who does listen to classical music, do tell me about your favourites. I'd love to listen to new pieces!

Ooh and listen to this too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4c364LnyOU4 It's not exactly classical, but it's a wonderful arrangement of 'Waltzing Matilda'.

Three things I forgot to mention:
            1. Don't forget to turn on the captions!
            2. Editor-san is amazing
            3. Your sacrifice is not in vain, twoset.

Goodness why am I laughing okay bye-

Just read the Book Thief a few weeks ago, then read your profile bio again. I can say that for the most part, it was a pretty good story, though I didn't really appreciate some things that Zuzak did. Like the ending, which felt quite rushed and lazy. Or the overall aimless plot. Though I must give the author credit for writing vivid characters, and a good prose.

Yelverton_TheGeek_

@GardenOfProserpine The ending was rather foreshadowed, yet, but still felt sort of lazy to do. "How can I tie up all loose ends and have some emotional explosion for the reader? I know -- kill all the characters at once!" But yes, I agree that the plot wasn't as important in the story than other stories, but the lack of it just makes the book feel a bit... stationary. Off the top of my head, I can't really think of a better word at the moment.

@Yelverton_TheGeek_ I'll have to disagree on that since the ending was foreshadowed many times in the book and the story was never really focused on a plot. It is the narration, the characters and the overall theme that makes it such a strong story, although it obviously has its flaws.

I love Stephen Hawking’s works. Whether I agree or disagree with him it is very thought-provoking.

If anyone has any interest in things like black holes, time, possible technological circumstances of the future and basically the physics stuff with respect to a bit of philosophy and society, I highly recommend reading his works. Simply if you’re curious about anything if that sort; be gives wonderful analogies and explains complex concepts in simple terms so that people can have a general understanding of the subjects he discusses.

GardenOfProserpine

@v_silva Glad to know that! I’m sure you’ll enjoy at least some parts of his works.

@GardenOfProserpine His works are on my reading list. . . The fields are not too familiar, but I do not doubt there is something of value to be found in it.

Playing the piano after a week = questioning the functioning of my hands.

Yelverton_TheGeek_

@GardenOfProserpine Mainly romantic, contemporary, and impressionist. I feel there's more freedom of interpretation in those, while things like classical or baroque feel a bit more confined.
