IN AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE... 
once upon a time, a young boy was
left horribly disfigured by bombs
and fire. steve, who was having 
a psychotic break at the time, 
decided to help. he carved a big
grin into his face, just like the 
boy had, to make him feel better.
but the parents of the kid didn't
like that. 

steve was shunned by the media
for promoting self mutilation,
and he could never see that lil'
captain america fan again. the
media cussed at him, shield tried
to get him to a mental hospital
and to let him take medication. 
he's seen therapists and has 
been in solitary confinement 
for weeks. then one day, he
escaped. he could heal, he
thought. 

still every day, he carves
an 'A' into his forehead. he'll
show society that he's still
captain america.  

he really tried to get better.
and he did.

just in a different way.
