Ian Lancethought

The name's Ian Lancethought. Penny for my thoughts, a dime for my time, that's how I roll as a editing freelancer. I also have a Chinese name, so here it is if you guys take a fancy to it - 陈 颖 Chén Yǐng. Google Translate pronounces it pretty decently, so if you're curious, copy & paste & listen! :)

Memoir in four quick chunks!
1) I'm a steampunk buff so watching things hiss steam and churn gears noisily really hits the spot.

2) I love filling my head with anything medieval & feudal, though if I were to actually live in medieval times, I'll probably be more anxious about the weather ruining my crops and getting randomly called to war than I am today.

3) I love dinosaurs and pigs. Nothing's changed there since I was a child.

4) I lived in two worlds growing up.
I. My hometown where life and family were pretty Chinese. Damned good food. Healthy eating. Peaceful little town. Our elders were our betters, no dating while in school, don't make trouble. Be stoic. Don't question. The West is wild and dangerous and corrupting. NO queerness. 

II. And my English novels where young people lived their lives, or told each other what was on their minds, what's deepest in their souls. Explored. Adventured. Had new cultures or wild ideas I never contemplated under my rock.

When I visited the States,  the two worlds inside me split apart and crashed together and expanded side by side like Pangea and the Big Bang on acid. To this day, I'm still stethoscoping myself to figure out things like neocolonialism, model minority, concepts like that. I am happy though, being both Chinese and westernized. More of these thoughts in my blog! (still working on that platform~)
