I'm curating a Book List for the End of the World-- not to be trite or to take this epidemic lightly, but instead to think about how creative minds grapple with big scary problems like global pandemics, global warming, wars over resources, dystopic futures, and stories that explore these kinds of things with a little fantasy thrown in.
I believe exploring the worst case scenarios can help us think through and gain power over unknown or scary situations. Books by @gtgrandom @edoggypaws @alraposas @KingEmpo @aerys_the_mad @feufeu15 @magalimenin and @KathaOwens See the hopefully growing list on https://www.wattpadwriters.com/t/book-list-for-the-end-of-the-world/217250 with some great non-WP recs by @KariRakitan

Find out what happens after the end of the world.

"It was when they ordered us to kill all the dogs that we knew," Dad lets the words hover in the blackness.

I've never seen one outside of pictures, but I know dogs and cats were domesticated from our training manuals. I'm not sure why Dad's voice sounds as if it is being pressed down by a heavy weight. I work to puzzle it out, but I cannot understand what makes this so important. There is a longing in his voice that I can't wrap my head around.

What will life be like after the global pandemic and the climate shift?

Power. Love. Acceptance. Hope. Everyone's thirsting for something.

Eighteen-year-old twins Nile and Lena have grown up knowing nothing other than life in Camp Hope, one of ten global communities established after a devastating climate shift and a global pandemic devastated the world. The camps are sponsored by Triumvirate Enterprises, the corporation that had the resources to save humankind when governments failed. After twenty long years of rebuilding, the Tri is one month away from launching a sustainable city that will offer security, regular access to water, and most importantly: hope for the future. But when the twins' father is accused by the Tri, they must flee everything they know and escape to the deadly Drylands with nothing more than a coded note as a guide. Will they be able to survive long enough to find a way to save their father?

Want to know what happens *after* global pandemics and climate change destroy the world as we know it? Check out THIRST (first lines below).
Use it as a warning or a guide.

In Camp, after lights out is called, it is so black that when you close and open your eyes, the view is the same. It is as if our bedroom is at the bottom of a deep, empty well. There is no sound but Dad's voice and the soft whistle of my brother Nile's breathing, coming from his bed across the room.

"What did you know, when they killed the dogs?" I ask, working to make my voice calm and quiet. Because I know he likes to see that we can control our emotions.

          Dad doesn't answer right away.

"It was not only dogs, but all pets. We saved the animals being raised for meat, of course," he laughs in a bitter way, "or tried. But it didn't matter, because they all died eventually."

He stops and takes a breath, calms his voice a little, and then answers me, "When they killed the dogs we knew that the reports and speeches saying things were fine... we knew they were lies. We knew it was much, much bigger than they'd told us."

It feels very weird to have written a book about what happens AFTER a global pandemic and major climate shift destroys the world as we know it. Let's hope I didn't predict the future! #pandemic #climatechange
