I guess it's time to attack one of the most underhated institutions to ever exist:
The myth of the clean Wehrmacht is the FICTITIOUS notion that the regular German armed forces (the Wehrmacht) were not involved in the Holocaust or other war crimes during World War II. The debunked myth, heavily promoted by German authors and military personnel AFTER World War II, completely denies the culpability of the German military command in the planning and preparation of war crimes.
Much of the information surrounding the so-called "honorable conduct" of the Wehrmacht was manufactured by Nazi officials, and other assorted war criminals who escaped justice because of the immediate threat of the Soviet Union and the apparent need to remilitarize Germany. Among these men were Franz Halder, a man responsible for ordering multiple war crimes across the Eastern Front.
There are more than enough sources to corroborate the fact that the Wehrmacht as a whole was complicit in the execution of war crimes and other crimes against humanity. The excuse that the majority of them were conscripts surprisingly does not hold water, as conscripts are not only capable of committing war crimes, but also that being executed or punished for refusing to do so was virtually unheard of. "Those Who Said "No!" by David H. Kitterman is a good document for this.
Point is, every last one of the Wehrmacht's personnel knew exactly what kind of regime they were fighting for, and a vast majority of them willfully participated in this conflict. Think on that.
