@rmcneary Yeah, I'm with you. Kindle is convenient, but I still prefer a proper book. E& D paperback will be coming at some point, but I couldn't say when.

@MattParker0708 I, for one, will most assuredly purchase a copy.

Once I figure out how to work out this Amazon Kindle app. I prefer paper books (when not on Wattpad), but it's about time I joined the 21st century.

For anyone who's reading my short story collection, Tales of Engines & Demons (Formally Cogs & Claws), I'll be taking it down from Wattpad in a week or so, as it is being published on Amazon. It will still be available to read until around mid-may.
I'll let you all know closer to the date, exactly when it will be going down.

          Thanks

MattParker0708

@rmcneary Not to worry; it'll be free for a short time at some point. Not sure when yet. I'll be letting people know as soon as I know.

Mogford

Two years ago I moved from Texas to Germany, where my wife is from.

MattParker0708

@Mogford From my experience, Switzerland seems much more tolerant of people who don't speak the language perfectly, but it does help if you at least try and speak the language. I do my best, until I come up against something that someone says that I really don't understand, then I ask if they speak English. And that's the problem. Because so many people in Switzerland speak pretty good English, it's been too easy not to have to learn. That's got to change, so I've started doing some intensive German causes, to help to beat the embarrassment at the fact that my children can speak the language better than me :(

Baby started crying and had to cut the last comment short.

It's going well for me. I studied to be a machinist in Texas (a lot of jobs in my current city in German). I got a job pretty fast. My German is still very basic and rough, but I get by. My wife and I speak too much English at home though.

I was very surprised by how nice everyone is to me. In Texas if an immigrant doesn't speak perfect English without an accent, people can be very unfriendly, or even violent.

            How about you?

@Mogford Hello there. It's a longer move from Texas to Germany than the one I made. How's it working out for you?

Hi there! Congratulations on 'Engines & Demons" doing so well--wow, you've collected a ton of reads! It must be so wonderful to have it completed. I read the post below about the batches of new followers, strange stuff. Do they vote and read too?

Just wanted to pop by to show I'm still alive ;)) I've had my nose in a side project these past weeks and haven't done much reading / commenting. I've sent Claudius, Rufus, and Dudu to modern day New Orleans to meet a few of wizzo's pirates, a Mughal royal couple, and a Japanese noblewoman from centuries past. It's a fun time travelling fantasy story we concocted as a collaborative effort. We've got 7 chapters so far but haven't published it yet, will do so when the cover's ready and we have one more part. The story will be up on the 'slingsandarrows' account.

I've done 3 big scenes for that (must wait for the next person to post then play off whatever they do) and have now returned to Rome to continue Claudius' story. Oh, I used your suggestion on one of the last chapters, 'Cato's surprise', and cut out a lot of the side stuff. He still faces the same problems, but I've upped the pace and simplified things (well, as simple as I can get :)). Thanks for the insights!

@Cinilla Thank you very much. I must admit, I haven't been around on Wattpad so much lately. I've had my head down, editing the life out of the short story collection I'm planning on publishing. Besides, all these odd followers I've been getting are weirding me out. They've started to be referred to as 'Zombie Followers' There is a rational explanation though. Apparently its an experiment WP is trying out in Asia where a random selection of authors are being recommended to new users. Something has gone a bit wrong though, and for some reason all new users in that area are automatically following these authors, when normally they wouldn't follow anyone. Hence a massive increase in followers for a lot of people.
            Strange but true.

I'm sure I keep seeing messages popping up now and then about some time traveling project that you and wizzo are involved in. Now I know what it is. Rufus meets Matthew West? Who is going to out-drink who?
That's definitely something to look out for. You'll have to let me know when it's live.
I have to go now, because I've got a short story blurb to write, and those things are intellectual agony :(

Has anyone else out there been getting strange amounts of new followers? Whenever E & D pops into the top ten on the Featured list, I get between 10 and 20 new followers.
The majority of them are new to Wattpad, are following between 10 and 20 people (The number 15 being very common) and in almost every case, the Wattpad profile is the last thing they followed.
Also, looking back at the older ones, there is zero activity after their initial spate of follows.
There is too much of the same pattern of activity for this to be a coincidense, and it started about two or three weeks ago.
          Anyone got any insights?

If you are a genuine follower who has followed me in the past few weeks, please reply to this and shout 'I'm Sparticus!' so I know that you're real.

MattParker0708

@SarahStunt Sorry for the late reply on this.
I'm sure you are right, and some of these are genuine followers. But the rest.. Who knows.
I am a little surprised that Wattpad hasn't noticed anything odd, because nearly all of these strange newcomers are following the Wattpad profile (in almost every case it's that last thing on their list of follows) Over the past week, the Wattpad profile's followers have increased from 3.3 million to 3.4 million, and that's a fairly big increase over the space of one week.
Ah well, they don't seem to be doing any harm at the moment, but i don't like this sort of oddity.
@tristam_james I'm a bit dubious about thanking these people for following, and I worry that I may have missed some genuine ones :(

@MattParker0708 I've had a spate too, with similar profiles. I was just thinking today that it seemed odd.

@MattParker0708 That is really weird - I just had a look at your followers list and it does seem very spambot-ty but some of them do have links to real facebook accounts. When you sign up for watty, does it straight away show you a list of suggested people to follow (I forget)? You may have shot higher up the list. I know when I first joined, I created my account but then came back a few days later to have a proper look around and update my details and stuff (I'm pretty sure I didn't do any mass-following though). The only thing I could think of would be that it is some marketing thing - like, they hope that a proportion of people they follow will just follow them back automatically and then they can start spamming advertising material.
