Melinda Friesen

Teen fiction is my passion. I love reading it, I love writing it, and I love publishing it.

I'm the author of the dystopian, ONE BRIGHT FUTURE series. ENSLAVEMENT, book one in the series, was released in 2014 and its sequel, SUBVERSION was released in 2016. ENSLAVEMENT has been shortlisted for a Saskatchewan Young Readers Choice Snow Willow Award and was nominated for a Sunburst Young Adult Award. Under the pen name Melinda Marshall, I co-wrote THE HIGH-MAINTENANCE LADIES OF THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE. 

My short Stories have been published in the Forging Freedom II Anthology, Freefall Magazine, and the Metro News. My short story, "The Haggard Man"; (horror), won grand prize in the Central Canada LitFest short story contest in 2013, and my unpublished YA Sci-fi novel, SOLAR, was shortlisted for the Writers' Village International Novel Contest. 

When I'm not writing, I work as the Marketing Director and Acquisitions Editor at Rebelight Publishing Inc., a Winnipeg based publisher of young adult and middle grade novels. I'm also a regular contributor at the Operation Awesome blog, a blog for writers and  on the board of directors at the Manitoba Writers' Guild.

As for my hobbies, well, they all revolve around writing. And what do I do in my spare time? I write and I edit and I take my book fun places where I can meet readers.
